Hi all! I am trying to do some research to find BBS cochin hatching eggs (LF) so I know who has them next time my hens go broody. We lost our big blue cochin too to a hawk a month ago. I would like replace him with a Splash too to cover my black hens. I would prefer to hatch eggs that might...
Broody in the Winter!
I have a small flock of 7 girls and 1 boy. They are not even a year old yet (born April 2014), but 3 of the pullets have decided to go broody! One cream leg bar, one cochin, and one cochin mix. I don't know what to do. Why do they think the middle of winter is a good...
Just guessing, but the first two have a roo look about them. Their heads seem more angular than the 3rd one. But, time will tell for sure. I just got 12 new chicks - mine are 2 weeks old. If I can get 6 girls out of them, that would be great!

I am so excited. We are finally going to get our chicken coop up and going and get some chickies soon! We had about 10 chickens for about 2 years but have been chicken less for about a year since we moved. With our move and busy lives, we are only just now getting back to the chickens! Can't...
What a great little coop! We are working on a new one for our chickens. I bought a playhouse that we are converting to a coop. We are working on the run design right now. Once we get moved to our new place, we will get it all together! I can't wait to paint the coop and make it all pretty!
I am curious how you hung your hardware cloth on the run. What width was the cloth and did it run horizontal along the run or in panels going vertical? How did you attach it to the wood? Thanks!
This is my French black Copper Marans roo, named Silas. I was wondering if he is looking like a good breeding roo. When he was a chick, he didn't have any white on him, and even had some brownish black fuzz to go with his black. Now, he has tons of orange, maybe too much? I recently lost my...
We are moving and our coop isn't able to move with us so, we just bought this playhouse to convert into a coop. We want to make a predator proof run for this coop. I have seen several taller runs that have wood panels with hardware cloth. I like that look. Does anyone have plans for the runs...
I am going to be looking to replace some of my hens too. 6 of our 8 hens were killed about 2 weeks ago while we were gone on an overnight trip. My hubby and I are in the mourning period. Sounds weird, but my hubby in particular is having a hard time with this loss. I am going to give him...
It definitely is no fun. We found the missing one dead this morning and the injured one died last night. Leaves us with just 3 - one of which is our rooster. I thought he would have at least tried to save the girls:( Trying to decide if we want to replace them right away or wait till we move...
I am so bummed. We came home this evening and some dogs got in our yard and killed many of our chickens:( We found 3 in the coop alive, 1 injured under a lawn mower, 1 missing and the rest dead:( Looks like we lost 4 or 5 - the missing one was my favorite FBCM. I try not to become attached...
Thanks for the info on NPIP testing Rinda! When summer gets here, I am going to give Sherry a call:) BTW, are you planning to sell any hatching eggs from your cream legbars? Once I get a broody hen, I want to give her some eggs - I prefer the hatching eggs, but I will look at chicks if I need...
What is the process for getting NPIP certified? I am thinking about selling hatching eggs this spring and want to have this done by then. What is the cost and what exactly does the process entail? I usually sell my eggs for eating, but since I have some FBCM hens and roo, I am thinking...
I having been on here lately and just saw this Tulsa thread! I live in East broken Arrow. We started with chickens about one and a half years ago. We love them. We currently have 8 hens and one roo. We are in Wagoner county so roosters are ok here:) the roos and 2 of the hens are French...
