Hey, guys! I've got 15 eggs under a Buff from my various girls and am trying to figure out what will result in way of mix & color on eggs. Do I have any chance of colored eggs since the roo is EE? (I acquired 4 EEs summer before last, wanting colored eggs, and they all four were roos!)
Thought I'd ask those in the "know": Does this description sound like a fighting rooster set-up to you? About 26 separate little houses with all rooster occupants. Cagey answers from owners, who didn't know that I also raise chickens and know a thing or two (like if you plan to eat them, hens...
Okay. I have had raw, red bottoms on some of my chickens for a while now. Currently, on two of my seven. At times in the past, the number's been up to four.
I have looked on the chickens themselves after educating myself on what to look for regarding mice/lice on past posts...no critters...
I've done a search, but can't seem to locate a good rule of thumb for this: at what age should I introduce my new pullets in with existing rooster and 2 grown hens? Is there an age where his mating tendencies would be bad for them, as in them being too young?
Thanks for advice!
I could NOT believe the size of this egg from one of my RIs this morning!! Should I be worried? I'm posting some pics, showing it side-by-side to a normal RI egg and then next to a supermarket Jumbo egg. Yowza...first one of my chickens becomes a rooster, now one becomes an ostrich.
Okay. I didn't think this was possible. I have three hens, all just at laying age (2 Rhode Islands; 1 Austra). One Rhode Island started laying a couple of weeks ago, an egg a day, and took her first break (as in no egg that day) on the 8-9th day! And then she started laying again after that...
Confused...they say you can order three at a time. But three of the same breed, or three of any breed you choose? Matters because I'm compiling a list for spring order and don't know if I can be really picky and get many types of breeds (I like variety) or if I'm more limited...make sense?
Question:
I just went outside to feed chickens a snack very quickly (I'm sick with a stomach bug so it was an effort & why I'm not spending more time investigating this ? hands on). I noticed some white streaks, not at the base of, but on middle to the tip of black Australorps's neck feathers...

Okay. So my girls like their snacks. I was a little later than usual today going out with treats, and was interested to see if my Dominiquer was continuing to improved in her health (she was sick a couple of days ago, not eating; Cocci; been on antibiotics).
I slide back the roof of my coop...
Okay. I'm a mess. New with chickens; had flock about 2 weeks. My Sussex has strange sounds & what I think is sneezing, thought she might have a respiratory thing going on. So, isolated her and put antibiotic in her water and in the larger coop. Now, this morning the larger coop has bloody...
Had my girls about a week and a half. Tough day today; lost one to dog. Went out to watch my survivors in coop to calm down, and am now worried about my Sussex pullet. She sounded strange/different from the beginning. As in different sounds than others, but now worse. I realize now that a...
I've very worried for her. She's only been at my place for a week and a half, so don't know if she "gets" how to come back in evening to roost. They are not free-ranging yet. She panicked when I was trying to pick her up to dust her for mites, jumped out of top of coop. She's our fast one. She...
Okay, does anyone have any knowledge here on the differences between the two? Is it true that Sumatra have black skin and black bones, even? If so, I'm in the clear because mine has white/pinkish skin.
The reason I'm so dire about it, is the difference in egg laying. Sumatras are poor layers...
