I have a 4 month old pullet who has started acting like her legs can't hold her up. When she does try to walk she is bowlegged. Nothing has happened trauma wise that I know of. Does anyone have any idea what I could do to help her?
So out of my dozen eggs only 2 hatched and one of those died. I found out my thermometer was not accurate even though I just bought it, calibrated it like I was supposed to but I digress.
So I have 1 baby chick. Pipped on Friday and is now in a makeshift brooder in the house where it can...
The chicks were fast outgrowing the brooder and we were planning on having another batch of chicks soon so hubby designed a brooder and it is finally finished. This is a fantastic brooder with 2 rooms and lots of space.
We used:
2-sheets of 4X8 1/4" plywood
9-2X4X8
1/2 roll of 1/4 gauge...
I have 22 babies right now and one is small, has issues walking and is not thriving like the others. I know with the leg issues I need to cull him but I've never had to do that with a quail. I've culled chickens and know what I'm doing there but how do I go about it with a baby quail?
I currently have 22 baby quail about 2 weeks old. 2 of them are not getting bigger but are alert, eating, and don't appear sick in any way. This is my first time with quail, they are technically hubby's project but I am the one that cares for them. Would it be best to separate the 2 smaller...
My hubby would like to start raising quail. I own an incubator and have no issues trying this. How much different is hatching out quail to chickens if at all? And does anyone have any fertilized eggs in the Central IL area?
Thanks!
I let my chickens free range after lunch on most days. I work 3 miles from home and come home at lunch everyday to let the dogs out to play, eat, and spend a little time with the flock. When I leave I just leave the run open, and they do whatever it is they do. Well on Friday it didn't go...
We are supposed to be getting a decent snow storm here later this afternoon. My flock will most likely hunker down in the coop regardless of what I do but I'm wondering if I should lock them up in there for the day/night while the storm goes through or just leave them to their own devises...
I went out to get eggs at lunch and found this. It was next to a regular egg. It is a different color than the eggs I am used to getting. Also completely round. I do not have any bantys either.
I don't know what to think of it.
I have noticed when I am home my chickens will roam all over the yard, come up to the house, check out the timber. I have been letting them out in the afternoons when I go home for lunch and leave them the 2-3 hours until I get home. I find that they don't venture very far from their run/coop...
While I was home at lunch I let the flock out. I have 5 hens and 3 j roos. 2 of my roos are good to the ladies and keep watch over things. The third is bound for the freezer. While I was hanging out with them a plane flew overhead and Frick and Elvis sounded the alarm. All hens ran back to...
I have 3 roosters. I would like to get down to 2 roosters, possibly 1. My head rooster and the guy who will stay (my avatar) is happy, outgoing, friendly, talkative. The other 2 were raised exactly the same. The low man on my totem pole is not friendly at all. I can't touch him, get close to...
Next Sunday I am getting a hen that has 5 chicks with her. I'm not really set up for this but this is what I am thinking.
I have a medium sized dog kennel that is wire. I would keep them in this in the garage or coop for now. I also have dog x-pens that I would put chicken wire on to give...
The first egg I got was 2 days after bringing my hens home. My lovely GSD puppy stole it straight from the egg basket and ate it before I could get a picture, she's lucky I love her.
So this morning I got my second egg! They have been at my house for a week and a half now. But as you can...
We started our coop with a 5x10 dog kennel and a box. This is what it has evolved into: The base
We had leftover lumber from putting a new deck on the house so we figured hey why not
We bought a prefab building to use as the actual coop:
Then we just cut a...
The coop should be finished by this weekend! I will post the photos as we go along. I am so excited I can't stand it! It is actually bigger than I had planned but that just means I can get a few more hens right?
I'm not entirely new, but haven't been on here in quite a while and wasn't a permanent fixture. I will be now. I currently have 3 young roosters that were given to me to be used as food for my dogs. For some reason I could not do the deed and instead built a coop for them. Now I know soon I...
Hello all. My name is Christina. I live in Illinois and had chickens for years growing up. I always hand raised them and they were my pets as well as egg producers for the family. I haven't had any in a while but recently rescued a 3 day old chick with a dislocated hip which is why I'm here...
I have recently rescued a 4 day old chick with a dislocated hip. I originally thought it was a broken leg and splinted it but the more I examine her I think it is dislocated. Does anybody have any suggestions? My vet kind of just went "hmm" and I am trying to find any info that I can. She's...
