12+ Cream Legbar - Hatching Eggs. Oldest flock in the country.

We received 25 very nice hatching eggs from the OP today. Packaging was excellent and the transaction ran according to Hoyle. We are excited to get the ball rolling with these and learn as much as we can about this breed. Pics/lighting don't do egg color justice. They are a beautiful...

Agree! Or find another way to squeeze a little more money out of you with "permits", "licenses" or fees/fines etc... or hit your healthy flock with a destroy order because you happen to be within "X" miles of a confirmed case...

    Chicken foot soup

I don't eat them directly, but they are a staple ingredient in my chicken stock. They add a ton of collagen and give the stock a very silky richness. It's the difference between a real stock and chicken-flavored water. Sourcing chicken feet is easy. Look for a Mexican or Asian market.

Gold Laced Orpington- For Learning and Sharing

We have a Gold Laced Orp baby that appears to be a frizzle! Has anyone else seen this express in GLO's? She/He was straight run, so I am not sure what I have yet, but disposition is very sweet and loving to both ppl and other chicks.

    eye injuries from pine shavings?

I posted this in the emergencies section, but haven't gotten any traction. Hoping to get some input from more experienced foks: We've had a couple of incidents where very small chicks have suddenly had eyes swollen shut or scratching at them and causing injury. I am wondering if the fact...

Little chick, Swollen eye, sneezing HELP!!

I would start treating immediately. CHicks are so small and weak by nature that they can go downhill very very fast. I would definitely isolate the chick as well so it can't infect others if it is contagious. G/L!

Little chick, Swollen eye, sneezing HELP!!

We did, with positive effect on both fronts. Tylan is internal and terramycin is topical, applied directly to the eye, so there shouldn't be any direct interaction between the two.

Pine Bedding/ Eye injury in chicks???

We've had a couple of incidents where very small chicks have suddenly had eyes swollen shut or scratching at them and causing injury. I am wondering if the fact that these tinies are laying to sleep in the shavings and perhaps catching a sharp edge in the eye? Larger chicks and full grown...

Little chick, Swollen eye, sneezing HELP!!

we had a similar issue with our gold-laced orp chick. We gave tylan 50 (any tractor supply has it) injectable liquid orally at 1/10CC (10IU) once daily for the last 5 days. Seemed better after day one, no symptoms after day 2 and is now happy and bouncy as ever. You can get syringes for...

BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

Our brooder is very simple... Since this is a temp shelter until they are big enough to move outdoors we followed a progression from week-olds until about 3 weeks and upgraded. The first Brooder was for 16 chicks and was a fairly large horse trough. Two weeks and change later we had 15...

We got our brooder built. THis is 32 sq ft and will house 15 4 week olds until they are ready for the henhouse in another 4 weeks or so... I designed this to work with a stock piece of plywood and stock length dimensioned lumber. We built the walls on hinges so the whole thing would fold...

welp, if anyone noticed the inordinately tall, bearded fellow in the red shirt wearing glasses and a tweed flat cap, that was me. I didn't engage much simply because folks looked so busy getting packed up and I didn't want to keep anyone from more pressing matters. I enjoyed the viewing, so...

TY! I already have a win from this forum. The Cape Fear group had a poultry show today in Smithfield. I caught it about two pages back. I showed up late at 3pm and everyone was busy packing up so I didn't get to ask a lot of questions, but there were some very interesting fowl to check...
