Bob contacted me and asked me if I would write an article on Buff color for the next Plymouth Rock newsletter since it was going to feature the Buff variety. I...
Many folks use the cable "zip" ties to leg band their chicks. Yous witch them out as they get older. Never heard of using food coloring. Obviously it will molt out. You may just have to wait till they are closer to grown to choose.
Blue Plymouth Rocks were entered in the SOP in 1920. Black is not an accepted color. However, Black and Splash would be a byproduct of the Blue. Curious why the Black never made it in the SOP.
Just curious. How would you recreate a Black Plymouth Rock, if someone really wanted them. Cross a White Plymouth Rock to an Australorp or an Orpington?
I still say its a hatchery Buff Rock. It may also be a male. If you want Buff Plymouth Rocks, Bob will help you find some. If you want to stick with Buff Orpingtons we will be happy to help you locate some.
Nice to see these in Arkansas! Now if any of our youth down here in SE Arkansas want some, we know where to send them.
Will we see these at the Arkansas State Fair this fall?
Plus Minnesota requires an extra NPIP form to be filed. Arkansas charges $15 just to sign the MN form. I think I will refund her money and forget sending her our eggs. especially after Bob's experience.
BYC will not allow us to post such things here. Nor are we to bring drama from off BYC to...
I would suggest joining the Pylmouth Rock Fanciers Club of America and see if any of their members have the Buff. You could start with the hatchery Buff Rocks and use either an exhibition Buff Orpington or White Rock to improve the size. It may take a few generations, but can be done.

These were shown by Dick Hortsman. He is a poultry judge and the APA District Director for his area. Dick did win Best of Variety at Crossroads. You will be pleased with his stock. He is also a BYC member. Holds lots of auctions on BYC.
