Not so much squeezing as snuggles.
My Brahma will walk up my arm at night to let me put her in the coop sometimes. She is about 8 pounds of big fat fluffy softness. Once up, she does let me snuggle and pet her. Her name is Henny, which gives you an idea of how good I am at naming.
My only...
@maddogdodge your hen is so fat and fluffy - does she let you squeeze her? JK!
Have you named them? I do love your little one's face - such a classic Aussie look: "Yes, can I help you? I realize I'm stunning, but must you stare?"
Your girls are little beauties!! Mine is going on 17 weeks now and her face just turned red. Yours really have nice green tinting. It's strange but my Black Star (sex link) has greener black feathers than my Australorp. Are yours from a hatchery or breeder?
I WOULD LOVE some of your "extras" - there are other peeps in NorCal that would also line up for them. Unfortunately, you can't export them. :(.
Australorps are such sweeties, it seems like they would be popular over in Aussie-land, too.
Hope you have a good hatch! I'm looking forward to...
What are the dimensions of a Australorp hen? 10 lbs? Height? Does anyone measure beak to tail dimensions?
I am making modifications to my little coop to make comfy roosts for my Light Brahma (who is back to being a pullet - yea!!) and May as well plan ahead for Sinatra.
Thanks!
Yeah, I did find a gotten tomato the other day, but there was also a nice one for me that was out of their reach.
My tomatoes are monster huge but hardly setting fruit. I blame the spraying of mosquitoes (b/c of West Nile) and other pesticides that are also killing off the bees. Has anyone...
Sorry to hear about your lost bird. I have thought mine looked skinny, too, with watery poo that could be because if the heat. And they were the ones lowest on the pecking order. Are you going to send your lost bird in for a necoprosy. (sp?).
I also free range, but just in my fenced...
My Aussie goes cuckoo for beans. Refried and pintos so far are a big hit. Along with starter feed, of course. But while my BSL tucks in to that when I interrupt their free- ranging with food offerings, Ms. Sinatra, is easily distracted. She is only totally quiet when she is eating and the...
Oh, they DO poop on you!! And not the nice "normal" poo but that nasty wet baby poo.
So, WHY would I want a chicken on my shoulder? I guess the same reason we like to watch their other antics. There is a special connection when a bird is at your eye level - they get a unique perspective...
I got my little Lorpy to go up and down the coop ladder today - I got video but can't seem to post it. Her legs barely reach but she went up and down twice. Such a smarty!
I have a 3" board roost that my juvenile Brahma prefers to use - is it worth replacing to get all 4 inches?
