it is so worth it to keep quality stock with the BLRW, don't give up! and don't cross out..
there may be breeders in your "area" that you could connect with for chicks or eggs
I have a BLRW hen that also reached POL early -24 weeks- some people wondered if she was hatchery, but she came from a San Diego breeder.
She continues to lay well at 18 months (not the same hen from previous post).
for comparison purposes, I was convinced this was a boy at about 8wks and actively tried to rehome "him"...she is now 13 months and lays regularly...(sorry it's a little blurry)
I would never have thought jack russell's would be safe to have around chickens...we had jack russells for many years, and did not consider having chickens because the dogs were so good at catching anything possible (from lizards to gophers to rats to squirrels). How did you accomplish that?
now that you have a BLRW, of course you will want more!
Heidi at Union Hill Ranch is on BYC and is very close to you. I believe she has some Foley stock.
There are likely to be others as well.
Meanwhile, Phage or luvinbluechickens are both on BYC, located in San Diego and they may be able to...
I used to feel the same way about just enjoying the genetics, but the math of it says there will be chickens that you don't want, and having a good plan is important. I didn't realize how addicting hatching can be, but there is nothing addicting about what to do with unwanted roosters, hens...
