Allergic to hay

Hi friends. I am super allergic to hay, have been my whole life. I have an 8x12 Barn, which is raised off the ground I am building for a chicken coop. They will have a separate run. This question is just for the barn floor. Any suggestions as to what to use on the floor? I really want to use sand, but my husband feels sand is too heavy with a raised floor. Pine shavings or hemp bedding.

Pine shaving is what I use. I am also allergic to hay.

It's also not the greatest bedding if you live anywhere even slightly humid.

Pine shavings are better than straw in the coop. I've tried both and the shavings last longer.

I do. I live in Florida. It's such a large area to cover, but I think I will look into pine or hemp.

Leaves are free, pine needles too but pine shavings smell so fresh and yummy when you slit open a bag. Probably a horse thing.

Yes they do. I put shavings and leaves and mulch in my run. I don’t scoop poop in the run. It just all breaks down in there.
