Charity Crochet , Knit & Sewn Projects!! Craft-along!! All Welcome!!!

I know this is for caps and blankies, but I just wanted to make a little suggestion.

Oh, and I simply cannot knit or crochet, at all. Anyway, my oldest son was a 1 lb 14 oz preemie. EVERYTHING is huge.....even when they come home. The preemie clothes swallow them. I got a pair of booties someone knitted at the hospital. This was the first thing that ever actually fit him. They were tiny doll sized. I still look at them frequently and get all misty. So, if someone is booty savvy and wants to think about some for preemies, make them TINY!!! Just the fact that something fit made life feel a little bit alright.

for you Em....and thanks for the site, I bookmarked it.

Christy, you should keep those booties somewhere special...AND...go to walmart and get the book and hook and learn to crochet!! We'll help you and it is easy!

Project Linus is great! Our daughter was in ICU for almost a month and a half this past winter and she received a quilt with their tag on it. It's beautiful and so well made. And it really did help to see something pretty laying on her even though for weeks she had no idea she had it.
We had brought nothing from home because we did not anticipate that length of stay or all those complication. And we were far from home.

Anyway, I will participate with the hats and blankets as well! I knit, crochet, and quilt and love all three.

I love that story!!

I think I might try to organize a list of some children's cancer specialty hospitals with their addresses and the same with those other charity sponsors folks have posted. Then I will post all those and people can send them where they want...or if enough items are made, maybe we can pick one or two specific places, get some BYC logo stuff to put with them and send them all as a group project. I really like that idea the best but want everyone to decide for themselves. Which would ya'll rather do? I would be happy to get a nice fun box together near the holidays and send it from all of us and request pictures back...let me know I sure don't mind doing that.

I have a gorgeous hand-knit quilt in sage green and dusty rose that was given to my daughter when she was in ICU, it's a project Linus blanket.

I still use it in the winter. It's a lap blanket for me, but it was the perfect size for her.

ICUs are such bland, sterile places, and it is nice to see the pretty colored blankets brightening the place up.

We just found out my youngest, my boy, has a serious heart defect. I feel like we're cursed or something. I guess we're lucky, though, because they told us it's the kind of thing that makes active kids just drop dead in their teens. :|

I just can't handle much more. Most likely, he's going to require a major surgical intervention. We're waiting to hear from the Cardiology team tomorrow so they can schedule a heart catheterization and a sedated echocardiogram. If they can fix it in the catheterization, we're good. If not, we're looking at open heart surgery in the next three weeks.

I'm just so scared of losing another child. How the heck is a Mom supposed to deal?

Sorry to hijack the thread.

If I'm not around much over the next few weeks, you'll all know why.

Oh Em, how scary!!
You didn't hijack the thread. You just pointed out exactly why this would be an important thing to do! Because even though these blankets will go to strangers, they will make a difference for a scared parent and child!!

I'm sorry you're going through this. You know you'll have a lot of prayers going out for you!!

You & your family will be in our thoughts & prayers. Please keep us posted and don't hesitate to ask if you need anything.

Wegotchickens is right that you're not hijacking, but pointing out what a good cause it can be. Plus, these crochet threads are also about share with each other about things going on w/ us, not just crochet. Hang in there!
