What's the trick to this? Do you need a more powerful light? I have a Brinsea Maxi II which is clear and tried this. I couldn't see anything in the eggs at all.

The trick is aiming the light in the right direction, with the eggs laying in the right position. Takes a little practice and experimentation. Also the type of eggs will make a difference. Duck eggs are nice and translucent. Some shells aren't so easy to see though. Also a very bright light (200+ lumens) in a dark room helps. I have a Brinsea Mini too, and I can do it.

Ah! My chicken eggs aren't particularly easy to see through. Not hard by any means, but probably not as easy as duck eggs. I'm using the brinsea candler that came with my kit, so maybe it's not powerful enough.

I want to get this incubator here, looks cool like that Nurture Right 360... but has increments of (0.1) instead of the dumb (0.5) increment adjustment of the 360! Although it doesn't have a humidity gauge, :( Looks cool, but I wonder how good of a hatch rate you can get though as not many folks have used them, it seems. Admit it, it looks awesome!!

Very interesting, never seen that one. The low price is tempting, but also scary.
I would not worry at all about it not having a humidity gauge. Add an independent one inside. It would probably be more accurate anyway!

Harder with chicken egg shells?
Oh who am I kidding...most my eggs are dark (OE's) and even the CCL eggs can be hard to candle.

:gig
Yea, it was a challenge with CCL eggs, but I was actually able to make out the air cell in even very dark BCM's once they were in lockdown. I guess since the rest of the egg was so dark inside, the air cell was actually visible!

Something weird is happening to 5! I thought I could hear the occasional tap so I looked with the light through the window and the air cell seemed weird, and upon closer inspection it seems to have shifted to the point where the bottom half of the air cell is no longer see through and the top is. What is happening?!?!

It sounds almost like the internal membrane has shifted down. I haven’t read very far back but if this is one of the double embryo eggs I am of no expertise. I just know that strange things can happen with them and that it is not always good. What day are they on and what breed are they so I can have a better understanding?

Double yolk Muscovies, though number 5 is possibly a single. They’re on day 32 out of 35. I just hope he’s okay!

At day 32, most of your development is complete, so if they are still alive and moving, they should be okay. Hatching is usually a major problem with 2 embryos so if at any time you think the ducklings need help, don’t be afraid to help them as they are already going to be in awkward positions. I look forward to seeing how this turns out!
