So I'll start with a tribute to the most recent addition, who was killed by a hawk after five months with us. RIP, Lil' Queenie. She was sweet, calm, and good natured. As @RebeccaBoyd suggested I may add Orpingtons in the future, in her honor.

Queenie in quarantine in the house December 19, 2020, a young somewhat malnourished pullet, her caretaker had been gone for a month or two, her flock split up and taken by people a couple weeks before. She had hidden in a wood shed and not been taken. But there was not much to eat but some bird seed, and the snow had come.

Here she is a month later January 16 2021, filling out and integrating eagerly. She was so happy to be part of a flock again!

Enjoying some chives on May 3rd 2021. She had been laying (since late January or early February?) and although the Buckeyes started laying January 4th, Queenie was the first and only one to make the escort call. In April and May the Buckeyes would join in the call when she did it. After she passed it was a while before I heard any escort calls from the Buckeyes.

Going to borrow gauges from a buddy and check the hi side pressure of my refrigerant. Going to change out my fan motor and if that doesn't work I'll sell an arm or some organs to get an hvac tech to take a look.
