That’s awesomeSome firsts for Dirt. First time at a show and being around more then 5 horses. First time being around Mares and first time in the show ring. He did very well. Ribbons are not important, for him just the experience's of all this was the most important thing. It was also a first for Rosie, showing against her papaw which she loved.
It’s beautiful colour, I am still chuckling over her stomping over top off the others to get right in there hahahaShe is called "Buff Laced".
Yes, she seems very leggy. I can't remember if Sylvie and Legertha seemed leggy or not at this age and frankly I'm still not strong enough to go back and look through their pictures.![]()
Wow I would have likely keeled overScreaming Pullet
The craziest thing happened today while i was building the new door for the Cluckle Hut. I heard screaming by a chicken. I immediately looked around for a hawk. One had buzzed the yard on Friday flying across the yard less than 5 feet in the air. I was sure I had lost a bird.
Then I realized it was too high pitched for one of the big girls. It was a pullet scream. Much like Sylvie.
But there was no way a hawk could get the pullets. They are in the big run with a roof and closed doors.
I ran to the run.
When I opened the door I saw the three of them huddled around my chair with Sydney on the outside looking in.
My first thought God forgive me was did Sydney somehow hurt one of them. As I got closer I saw the Lady Featherington and Glynda seemed fine but Gucci was on the ground.
Gucci was the one in trouble.
When I got to her I saw her struggling writhe her left wing. She had somehow gotten it wedged up into the hardware cloth. A quick examination and I had a way to extricate her. She was free in a moment and in her way seemingly unhurt.
Suffice it to say it was all very traumatic for me. I needed a moment to recompense myself before I started working on the door again.
I only noticed because I have seen foals who are very leggy and have mobility issues.Just like @Ponypoor I thought she looked leggy and had a stilt like walk just like Bernadette.
I asked the vet if it was nuts to think that having long legs might make it worse - because the nerves had longer to grow to get to their destination and therefore needed more support to travel the distance.
She had no clue but didn't think it was totally nuts.
Ok anytime you want to visit and help me let me knowUpdates to the Hut
Well the Rascals got a taste of construction today. I took out their big roost and legthened the the pieces that attach it to the wall. This made it much sturdier. It should now easily hold Lady Featherington's full weight when she is grown

I then removed the glass door and replaced it with a wire door to increase ventilation in the Cluckle Hut.

This should make it more comfortable at night for them.

Holy moly that’s hotI’m back home with the chooks. They are pretty smart. They all want to be inside with me (it is 104f outside at the moment)
Xzit and Dakota are in the living room with me, the rest are in the chickens room. (House is cooler than outside)
Oh she is a true equestrian nowGood afternoon everyone. I really appreciate all of everyone's prayers and concerns. It's funny how before the accident I was *toughing* out the show. After Rosie and Russ fell, I'm fine but my baby is hurt. After we got home we both died. She is very sore all over but it is tolerable. The long acting pain shot she got is keeping the edge off but she is high as a kite. She did not want the shot, but, I insisted. I know if she did not get it she would be constantly crying right now. I'm ok today, still a little sore but nothing like yesterday. Mom was in charge of my camera yesterday and she is not the best but I got a few good pictures and videos. I love this video, it was a few hours before the show started, Rosie is on Russ and her best friend is on her pacing pony. Look at them, there is nothing better then 2 best friends riding together. They were literally on the backs of their horses from 5 yesterday evening until the fall at 1:30 and laughing and smiling the whole time. As Rosie put it this morning it was a good show. She won 2 ribbons and a broken bone.
