If the rice is a bit sticky, you might need to break it into smaller clumps. Charlie wolfed down some sticky rice and it seemed to get stuck in her craw. She managed to dislodge it though.
Oh dear. I didn’t think it could harm them.
I treat myself to Thai food once every couple of weeks and we share (they get the rice and I get the curry) so they have been having it regularly for over a year with no ill effects. Now you have me worried.
Mind you, this was first thing this morning and they were fine all day supervising my Chicken Palace chores and enjoying a sunny day lounging around and touching up their tans.
But I will break it up more next time. Thank you for warning me.

It is official: my chickens are pigs!
I gave them the rice from my Thai take-out dinner and they just wolfed it down. @BY Bob ‘s chicken’s seems to peck delicately at their pasta and mealy worm treats. Nothing delicate about the Princesses. I did not speed up this video.
My gosh and I thought mine were fast! Mine would go hungry at the chicken palace. WOW! Stop and take a breath!

Maybe if they stopped to chew their food..... :gig Yikes, I'm still scared by that eating video.

It’s probably fine, I just noticed Charlie looked like she had some stuck. And she’s a pig too.

Elizabeth got it stuck all over her face (that is what happens if you put your head right in your food!), but Maggie helpfully (and of course with no thought for herself) cleaned it off for her in about 10 seconds flat.
🤣

I love it when they get yoghurt all over their faces! :lau

Added a Reading Room to the Coop

Since Lilly has decided to sit in the nesting boxes while others are laying and thereby blocking access for those that actually want to lay eggs, I added another nesting box today. We are calling it Lilly's reading room. I need to put in the magazine rack for her but otherwise I got it done in one afternoon.

I'm going to just add on the side of the existing nesting boxes. So I had to remove the wall from 1 side to start.

Of course Hattie came by to inspect the worksite

Here are the frame boards all cut. I like 2x2s for jobs like this.

I put 2 walls together and had this.

And here is the framing done.

I then cut out a wall for between the boxes and a floor.

I then tagged the frame onto the other boxes to figure out where to cut the whole in the coop.

Then I removed the frame and cut the hole.

I then attached the frame permanently.

Removed the outer wall and the inspectors returned. Worksite safety is important and it must be built to their approval of course.

Replaced the outer wall.

New roof and inner wall put on.

Add straw and eggs.

And then the final inspections

I hope they like the added capacity. :thumbsup
