It is official: my chickens are pigs!
I gave them the rice from my Thai take-out dinner and they just wolfed it down. @BY Bob ‘s chicken’s seems to peck delicately at their pasta and mealy worm treats. Nothing delicate about the Princesses. I did not speed up this video.

If the rice is a bit sticky, you might need to break it into smaller clumps. Charlie wolfed down some sticky rice and it seemed to get stuck in her craw. She managed to dislodge it though.

Here is an interesting story... For the past couple of days Nilky has been looking weird.. she just stands in a strange position... well this is also when others will “attack” her... I mentioned the attacks on her awhile back.. so I decided to separate her so she could be sick in peace.. I put her and her three daughters (Cochin bantams) out in the new yard.. two of them are broody right now and this is a good time away from the nests for them also... I was out setting up the old coop and stopped to look at her... she walked right up to me! This is VERY odd for her cuz whenever I am around she runs for her life!!!! Like a nut! So I squatted down to pet her a bit.. then I picked her up and I saw this egg laying there! I was so surprised! It was like she came to me to lay this ... I don’t see how as she looked as though she had been struggling for awhile.. I was thinking she was egg bound the way she was acting... so is this a lash egg? She still doesn’t look well.. I am gonna put Cutie with her in the small coop so she isn’t lonely.. when I saw the attacks on her the last time she was looking ill then as well... so I wonder if they are attacking her because she is sick?? Any of yall have an idea? I know some of you mentioned “reminder abuse” but I really don’t believe this is the case here... View attachment 2097723View attachment 2097724
That's a soft shell egg. Aurora laid one once. I think Phyllis may have done so on the roost two nights ago. It's not concerning when they first start laying but if she's older there may be more serious issues.

How old is she? I would supplement calcium citrate and vitamin D. You may be able to get a multivitamin mixture for her water. I would try these first.

I don’t know about a lash egg, but Chickie started laying these when she got sick. Is there any way you can stop her laying; reduce her daylight hours etc. This looks like reproductive issues. Do you have an avian vet nearby? There are hormone implants you can give them but they don’t always solve the problem. It stopped Chickie from laying but I couldn’t fix her infection/issues. Good luck, I hope she gets better. :hugs
Thank you! I am bringing the kitten in tomorrow morning for her spay and I could ask them... I don’t know how I could get her less daylight.. she does look like she has been sick then acting normal then sick again over the last few weeks... she was back to pretty normal this evening so you may be right about reproductive issues... she hasn’t laid an egg since I first noticed her looking unwell .... and maybe she laid one of these the last time she was down and I didn’t see it.. and then after she lays she feels better for a time...
