It is so interesting how each momma behaves with her chicks. Every other girl I have is pacing the coop on their first or 2nd day wanting OUT with their babies. I would prefer if they stayed in a week but I give in to the momma's so they do not hurt a chick in their pacing. Chiquita is the exact opposite. She does not want to bring them outside of the coop. The few times I've brought them out after a few minutes she starts pacing wanting back IN. I'm good with this, they are super tiny and my yard is a muddy mess. Their feathers are starting to grow in and right now it looks like the mix has normal feathers. So that is 2 for 2 satin silkie crosses for me. This mix does not have a name yet, but the silkie chick Rosie wants to name Hoppy. She had reserved that name for a black Poppy chick that sadly was not meant to be. Instead she wants to give it to Poppy's niece or nephew.....praying niece but we all know how my luck is.
What did your mum say about the chicks?? Just curious 😊

Rest in Peace my bella Bella

My beautiful Bella has died.
She was my dream chicken companion.

Always fashion-forward, her black snakeskin boots coordinated perfectly with her gorgeous blue, green, and purple, black feathers.

She was my first ever lap chicken. She was indescribably soft to touch, and right to the end she was grooming my hair and snuggling into my neck for a nap.

She was a loyal friend to Bernadette and stuck with her for months when she couldn't walk. In turn, Bernadette has been a constant visitor and companion for Bella.

She fought hard against the virus that killed her but it was all just too much. In the end she died peacefully and quite rapidly. She was close by her friends Bernadette and Lulu, and I was sitting with her. I hope she felt neither pain nor fear.

Bella now has a bottomless freezer filled with frozen corn, and I am left with a Bella-shaped hole in my heart.

Bon voyage Bella Dracula. You will always hold a special place in my memories.

I wonder if I will grow 4” and get a shiny winter hair coat 😁

Alternatively, take a large glass jar and a small glass jar to an empty field/overgrown lot. Use the small jar to catch the hoppers, the large to store quantity. Catch a large jar full and bring home to all the girls.

Edit: keep a rock on the lid of the large when not putting hoppers in it. Whatever rock you start with, go bigger. It's amazing howmuch they can move with a well placed jump.
Are grass hoppers good breeders? We don't have them here but can buy them at the pet shop.

Oh no! Oh how sad, so sorry to hear this, I know you’re devastated it’s not the outcome I would have thought.

I have to say your diligence was amazing, you are truly a wonderful chicken mom, I hope Bernadette isn’t missing her too badly. I am sending you a huge hug.

You never know, I could do with growing a little just to use my washing line :D

Is there a cat and dog equivalent of this wormer? Though I think I found a good one
