No new kitty pics, but stove is tempered and works wonderfully. View attachment 3254692Night temps down into the 30s (no freezing yet) is definitely a good thing for ending the wildfires. Also means the apples should be harvested/processed soon.
I would love that fire in my home. I would bake potatoes on it every time it was going.

In the old days during the winter my mother would keep a dish of butter and various fillings on the table and a bag of what we called (washed) spuds/potatoes all ready for baking on the fire. So we could stay in the warmest room.

Before bedtime we would open up the living room door too let the heat spread into our bedrooms. Those were days we had very little but we were cozy and warm 🏠💗💓

I'm keeping this grain of rice on my nose for later

Anyone know what this plant is? And is it toxic to chickens? My gals go nuts for it! They gobble the red fruit as fast as they can before I can run and snatch them away from it. No one has been sick from eating it. I have to keep my back door closed when doing chores to stop them going there and eating it

So have you decided it's piou-piou as a name 😊

I am still sure she is a she 😊

Glad you had a lovely trek. You're very lucky to live were you can do this!
I hope you're right! Yes, I feel very lucky to live here, but I've always been hiking in the mountains even when I lived in Paris. It's the one thing that has never changed in my life!

I was worried about you. Glad you had a great time. Does your awesome roost (the branch sitting on the tree Y) ever tip over if birds are only roost on the far side like the second picture?
It's kind of stuck at the other end against the slope so it's held back, but if two of the heavier hens roost on the far side with no counterbalance it does wobble. That doesn't happen often !
Marvelous! You have been missed. It's so nice to see your chickens again. I'm glad to hear they are getting along better. 😊
Thank you ! They still have a long way to go, but it was a very pleasant surprise coming home to find all of them together!

Plantnet says bittersweet night shade ? It should have a purple flower when in bloom. It does look like a type of nightshade and all of them are toxic when green, much less so when ripe- like all solanacaes.
