I was hoping Piou-piou's tail would have grown while we were away, but it's still not done. I'm still a bit anxious she could suddenly turn into a he as she's so late in her development!
I'm not seeing any pointy/drapey saddle feathers, which would indicate a male...so that is a good thing. I can't make out the hackle feather ends...are they pointy or rounded? Guess you may just have to wait a bit longer. I'm hoping she is indeed a female......I'm a piou-piou fan! :love :love

That's Thing's problem too. As she's moulting, I'm going to have to wait until she's done to do anything about her crest at the moment. Her nails are also getting too long for practical scratching. Filing them (debating doing this outside against rocks/sidewalk vs inside with a metal nail file kinda thing)
I have a few chickens I trim the nails for. I found my dog nail clipper works extremely well.....just be cautious about how much you take off.....their nails can be dark enough to not be able to see the quick. I only take small amounts off at any time. If I'm really concerned about the length, I go back 2 weeks later to trim a smidge more (the quick will recede a bit if it is really close to the tip....so you can gradually work the nail back/shorter)

Any tax more pics from today august 10th

I would love that fire in my home. I would bake potatoes on it every time it was going.

In the old days during the winter my mother would keep a dish of butter and various fillings on the table and a bag of what we called (washed) spuds/potatoes all ready for baking on the fire. So we could stay in the warmest room.

Before bedtime we would open up the living room door too let the heat spread into our bedrooms. Those were days we had very little but we were cozy and warm 🏠💗💓
My mum had no electricity or running water or bathroom in her home, she came to Ontario when she was 19 and that's when she found out about all those things and telephones😊

I hope you're right! Yes, I feel very lucky to live here, but I've always been hiking in the mountains even when I lived in Paris. It's the one thing that has never changed in my life!

It's kind of stuck at the other end against the slope so it's held back, but if two of the heavier hens roost on the far side with no counterbalance it does wobble. That doesn't happen often !

Thank you ! They still have a long way to go, but it was a very pleasant surprise coming home to find all of them together!

Plantnet says bittersweet night shade ? It should have a purple flower when in bloom. It does look like a type of nightshade and all of them are toxic when green, much less so when ripe- like all solanacaes.
Yes flowers purple.

They only eat the red ones

I will cut it back and throw away.

Thanks!

And the icing on the cake: to clean out the ashes, flip a release, remove a panel inside it, sweep everything into the drawer in the base and take out the drawer. I'm now mulling where to put the ashes so the chickens can bath in them....probably one or more of the tires along the deck...
That sounds like a wonderful stove. I remember my grandma had one and it made the place so cozy.
