She's Gone

Gucci passed away this afternoon. We have been fighting to keep her going since the 19th. Today she decided she did not want to fight anymore.

I will bring everyone up to speed on everything that went on later. For now, there are 7 hens in residence at Fluffy Butt Acres.

Mrs BY Bob did not get to say goodbye. She is visiting Eve this weekend.

Hi, everyone! Happy Saturday! I hope everyone’s doing well. My girls are out free ranging at the moment as I clean up some more of the brush from the oak trees have been working on. So guess what? Apparently Word on the street is that I am the chicken lady. Today I was able to drain 60 cc of fluid off a very sick hen with aacites. She’s a rescued hen of a friend of a friend. Poor little girl is in bad shape, but I think we did provide a little relief and I’m going to try to help this family make sure she gets more nutrition to build her strength. Long-term prognosis might not be great, but it would be nice if she got to really enjoy life for a while before she goes. Feeling happy to have hopefully provided a tiny bit of comfort to a chicken in need.

Yes, the dog pens look like this. You can get them at various heights: 24", 30", 4'. I have 3 that are 30" tall, and bought one that is 4' tall and separated it into sets of 2 panels each, and use those as covers for a couple of mine 30" ones (I attach them with small carabiners. It is dark now, but I'll try to get a pic tomorrow.

I am afraid to chop too much feathers too short as I don’t know if they have a blood supply still! But that left eye needs to be more clear so will trim around it tomorrow.

It is very hard to do. I understand completely.
