This is the best time of day. The ladies love to be out foraging. I worry that it is when the foxes also like to be out foraging so I sit with the Princesses and enjoy the afternoon.
I just cleared the electric fence that got a bit overgrown in the rainy days while I was away. Even with all the rain the ground is dry and rock hard making it difficult to move the posts. But I think I managed mostly to set it right.

I came home to find most of the girls were already in the coop, Horus with them. Meanwhile, Maizie and Pippa are hanging on the wood pile, Nellie under the French lilac (tail feathers long enough to poke through the remaining fluff), Kren and Whiskey near by and Hector watching down by the rocks in the middle of the lower lawn. Where are Cheetah, Cuckoo, and Blanche (never far from PITA who is in the coop?!)?

Down below in the horse paddock, raiding the manure...(aka foraging farther afield).

She's Gone

Gucci passed away this afternoon. We have been fighting to keep her going since the 19th. Today she decided she did not want to fight anymore.

I will bring everyone up to speed on everything that went on later. For now, there are 7 hens in residence at Fluffy Butt Acres.

Mrs BY Bob did not get to say goodbye. She is visiting Eve this weekend.

Léa thanks you for your article. She found it really explicative (though she would have liked a conversion to grams). Now she's trying to calculate how much she should eat 😉

@ChicoryBlue Thank you so much for all the explanations on building the run. We're starting same operation on Monday (ours is permanent). But I think it will be very much underbuilt compared to yours. You're scaring me a bit with the polycarbonate - we're using it for the run and have just used some to close roof openings in our old barn, but we've been way lighter on the fixing! Well, we'll see very soon because we also have a lot of wind, so if it rips apart we'll know it wasn't enough 😬. Anyway, your run structure is maybe not completely orthodox but it looks very solid and nice, and a pleasant place to be for the chickens.
DH always goes big and extra on everything, and we do get heavy wet snows, and wind from two directions.

I think a lot of folks fix each panel crest going in maybe halfway on the windward edge, or maybe all of the edge panel, and then do every other one the rest of the way, and it seems to work for them.

Yup, the Buckeyes happily hung out in the FrankenRun as soon as it was clear. I'll get pictures tomorrow.

Oh no I am sorry to hear this 😢😢

Had a crap week at work but all is good now. Lobo learned that by watching Duke that he is as tall as dad. Big sweet wolf boy will stand up on his hind legs and give me love. The bigger they are the sweeter they are.
Just another few days to get through there, then you will be doing what you enjoy ❤️

Can’t wait to hear some stories 😢
