Poor Maggie didn't come out of her nest box at all today. I feel like it can't be long now. But she has not given up quite yet. She still shows interest in life, she chats to me when I visit and will always peck at some corn and chopped shrimp if I offer it by hand. She eats about enough to keep a very small robin alive.
Now it is the weekend if she needs to be euthanised I would have to do it myself which I dread.

In more cheerful news, Bernadette is a hoot. Diana claimed her rightful favorite spot to roost. Bernadette spent a good 40 minutes thinking up and trying different strategies to dislodge her. But Diana stayed put. I was observing from inside the servant's quarters of the Chicken Palace where I was sitting on a stool keeping Maggie company and enticing her to eat shrimp.
While I had my head down chatting to Maggie there was an awful rukus and somehow Bernie got her roosting spot. I have no idea what she did because my eyes were on Maggie. Bernie isn't assertive with Diana in any other regard. It is just that roosting spot she has to have come what may!
Awwwww the laugh is for Bernie, what I really want to do is give you a long close hug. I am so glad Maggie has you for her human, someone caring and steadfast, she is truly a well loved pet 🥰

Today was bittersweet. Pecan and Oreo have been fighting no one was getting hurt YET and Macaron was getting picked on more and more. The answer was obvious but I expected I would have more time. 3 Roosters is 2 to many for 10 hens. I was going to try and make it work but it became clear that was not to be.

I knew what my options were and liked none of them. Then an opportunity presented itself. An employee at Rural King who takes care of all the animals was looking for a Rooster as he had lost his. So today I took my Pecan and Biscotti down at the end of his shift and gave them a chance they couldn’t have with me. I know there is no guarantees when you re-home but I reason some chance at being able to be Roos is better then no chance at all.

My heart is heavy none the less. When I got home I sat with the remaining flock for quite a while and watched them and they seemed subdued but yet also more balanced calmer. I think I did the right thing but it may take some time to find peace with it.

Rosie is doing great. She has ridden several times already. When she is in sight of me, she is at a walk. Out of sight with her Papaw, who knows and they are not saying a word.
Glad she is back riding

I plan on throwing a leg over my gals this week, it’s supposed to be nice all week ❤️ Figure I may as well since I am on vacation…..

Summer's not in the photos but that girl flew right in my hands and stayed there for a bit.

Beauties 🥰

This is about daylight with my hens. They go in certain order if humans are not outside with them. If I'm out then all bets are off.

Phyllis goes first. Sometimes more than an hour before sunset. She gets up on the high roost in the main coop. She does not remain there very often as Sydney and Aurora will toss her off. But none-the-less she starts her roosting there.

The order for the remaining hens is something like Sydney next, that's when Phyllis switches coops.

Then Hattie.

A period of time passes then Betty goes in. About the same time or shortly thereafter Glynda and Lady Featherington go to roost. Lady Featherington use to dawdle and hang out with Gucci for a while but no more.

Last is always Aurora. She will stay out until almost dark, hoping to get some meal worms or other snack before bed.

I will see if I can track times tonight to give you a better idea of how long before dark each roost up.
Tonight it was beautiful and sunny, so everyone was outside till it started going dusk.

Then everyone started roosting, the three white silkies were the last in.
