Mr Pumpkin Head

Best. Thing. Ever! Pumpkins.
This whole pumpkin carving thing sounds really fun! I would have to do it in September though and take pictures because we are at the point of below freezing temperatures at all times and won't see above freezing again until next spring. I can't imagine that pecking a frozen solid pumpkin would be that enjoyable!

I really helps to have a good sentinel. It can save lives.
They truly have awesome eyesight! And that hawk is a small one - about the size of those chickens so not sure what kind that is... I am still leaning towards Peregrine but they like cliffs and high tall buildings... Need to do some research.

Yes that would be a 'hard' sell for them hahahaha :)

It's another glorious day here, everyone is out in the sun flaked out sunning themselves - ahhhh the life of a chicken.

Ah but that's just balderdash, everyone knows that it's the elders that hold the real power - wisdom and knowledge! You are the only one who can decide if the best days are behind - OR in front of you.

No one but you is truly in charge of your life. The decisions we make today can effect tomorrow, but nowhere is it written in stone that you have to just take it as it is. We can make suggestions, but it's up to you to make the effort! Look at me - I did a stupid thing (quitting), I gave myself my usual 24hrs of whining and moping, then I pull on my big girl panties and went to work looking for a new J.O.B. Am I feeling sad and like an idiot? absolutely! But it is what it is - now I need to just move on, I like to think that I will find something awesome, but if not then I will work as a Walmart Greeter if I have to, 7 days a week.

You are just as valuable as the next person, I don't hold with this thing of 'this person is smarter', or 'this person is a CEO', etc. Everyone has their part to play and is as valuable as the next person.

So give yourself a kick in the derriere and find out why you are in a funk.

(hugs hugs hugs)

I will pay some Motivation Tax when I find my phone (darn thing laid it down somewhere in the house!).
So, you’re telling me to slip my big girl panties back on? And your phone is in the couch I’m assuming.

Thanks Kris, I chose to put Chaco down today. And depression is setting in. :hit
Very sad news. You did best for Chaco, and a very difficult decision given the situation and her level of pain. Hugs to you, :hugs and for all the great memories of Chaco and the pictures you’ve shared here, Rest In Peace, Chaco. 🐴

bok bok BAWK bok bok BAWK bok bok BAWK

Ok now what? I go out and look to see what's going on, Mr P is looking around not really acting anxious or anything.

Dorothy - that's who is making that call. She and Buttercup are staring intently up at the trees, I don't see anything...

Oh wait! Ah! There it is - a hawk as soon as I looked its way I guess it figured I had made out its location so it launched itself and swooped out of the tree and was gone. I only saw it when it took flight.

GOOD DOROTHY! She is turning out to be a very good look out!
Is she your sentinal/2nd in command???

I think your mentioning needing to trim Pompeii's top-knot again is true...he can't really see UP. It is clear he is trying to be watchful, though....

It is with great sadness that I announce the peaceful passing of my beloved Daisy. I had no warning as honestly she has had a great month in truth. Today I saw her dust bathing, bullying her way to more then her fair share of dried cherries and picking on Twiggy. I went out at dark to make sure everyone was roosted and do a final egg check when I found Bubba snuggled up beside her. She was still warm so she could not have been gone long as I had went out back to dump out some leftovers a hour prior and she was scratching around. I have her body wrapped up and in a box and will bury her in the morning. I will admit to feeling angry and cheated that she was only 2 1/2 years old and not a high production breed, yet I've lost her to presumed tumor in her reproductive tract.
Rest in peace my sweet girl. I hope where you are now there endless minnows and young snakes for you to eat.

Ohhhhh, but that means NOW it would be a GREAT treat/diversion for them.

Wrap said pumpkin in some foil (whole) pop in oven at around 300 degrees for anywhere from 30-60 minutes (depending on size. until it is roughly half cooked, hardness wise) Slice off a few spots of the skin ( pumpkin face or other) to give them a start to the meat...bring out warm ( but not hot) in late morning...when it will take longest to re-freeze and let them have at it!!!!

If it freezes solid, you can always bring it back into the house, wrap in clean foil, and warm in the oven on low again...to thaw/slightly warm up.....and bring back out mid-day again.

the good thing about the freezing temps is that it will keep 'in-between' heatings, until it is mostly gone. Trust me, once they 'discover' how good pumpkin is...they will have a field day....and it is a healthy & good boredom buster in the cold, dark, 'nothing to forage/nothing to do' days of winter!

Well, you could go for the big boy britches. Your choice. Either is quite acceptable now-a-days, so go with whatever your heart desires in that regards......

BUT DO IT :hugs :hugs

You have had a rough patch, too, with the loss of chooks and property to evil neighbor, helping an elderly friend with her dying pup, having to make the hardest decision in your life regarding Chaco...
And, clearly, your chooks and Horse are/were your family...
so it isn't easy. However, if you strap on your boots, and focus on SOMETHING positive to do...some mental or physical action to keep you busy and provide positive 'feedback', it will help. It won't magically make it better, but it WILL help. We care about you, Alex. Your Chooks love you (and NEED you). Take care of yourself, mentally & physically, engage in a POSITIVE distraction to help you heal ........:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs

If not, I'll sic my GEESE ON YOU!!!!!

Note the two ducks laughing at the idea of you having to run from the geese in this top photo!

Here, everyone is showing you how to run most effectively...they really like you and don't want to actually have to catch you and 'bite' you....but they will if they have to!!

Here Delilah is saying " I'm watching you Alex!!!!

and in the next photo, she is saying: Just look at my serrated beak! It can do some real damage while I'm also flogging you with my strong wings!

See what I mean? I've shredded this heave duty tarp...just think what I can do to flimsy old human flesh........

DON'T MAKE ME HAVE TO COME FOR YOU!
