I need to make a small off topic complaint. I am sleep deprived, and really so is mom. Grandma is not sleeping much anymore due to the dementia. I think she has slept maybe 4 hours the last 3 days. For the past 2 weeks she has been like this. Several days no sleep then crashing for a day or two and then repeat the process. I've been told the insomnia is only going to get worse. Her dr tried to get her to agree to a prescription for a sleeping pill. She refused and said she had no trouble sleeping.

Sorry to hear you are having so much trouble. I remember how hard it was when my father’s dementia started to get really bad. At some point you will need to discuss with the doctor having her declared incompetent to make her own medical decisions. Because even though she may be thinking clearly some of the time, it isn’t consistent enough to make sound decisions.

My father had Parkinson’s and managed to keep it from me for a few years. Once I found out I was worried about him driving because his reaction times were so slow. And the waitresses at his little small town Callie told me they said a prayer every time they saw him pulling in that he wouldn’t get hit making the turn and would stop before he drove into the restaurant. So I asked him if he was still supposed to be driving. His answer was “the doctor hasn’t said I can’t”. So I made sure I went to his next appointment, and asked the doctor point blank how much longer he would be able to drive. The doctor’s answer? “Oh he shouldn’t be driving at all any more, definitely not.” So either the doctor assumed he would no it wasn’t safe, or dad “forgot” that he wasn’t supposed to be driving. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Indeed so! The treats I got are dried river shrimp and minnows. They smell quite fishy and you can clearly see they are shrimp and minnows - there was a whole small fish in there.
I got them at Tractor Supply and thought they would be a big hit. I wonder if they would like it better if I rehydrated them, or if they really don't like inferior quality shrimp!
I always give them the shrimp tails from my Pad Thai treat (I get that for myself once a week) and they go nuts.
Hmmm.
Just get tuna for them (Albacore is best) don’t get the cheap stuff!

I've been 'cooking up a storm' this morning. While out on my errands yesterday, I stopped at that food pantry that gets assorted things from Grocery stores (basically stuff about to or just expired) and 'stuff' from local farmers that are sub-par or excess and they can't sell.

I got a 16 oz container of 'carrot noodles' and one of 'zuchinni noodles', as bag of shredded veggies ( for coleslaw), a large (16 oz) container of mushrooms, plus one of those 'party platters' of assorted cut fruit, and a container of strawberries (!no mold!) And a farm & feed store was having 75% off pumpkins ( including some closely related but not 'actual' pumpkins.

I set a side a small amount of each of the noodles & the pkg of mushrooms, and I will make a stir fry (with onions, too that I got a couple of weeks ago) for us. The rest of the veggies I chopped up more & am cooking, plus cooking some oatmeal and flax seeds. This will all be mixed with some of their feed & further chopped fruit from the platter for a mash that they will get later today. Also, cooked one of the large 'pumpkin family' squashes, which I will cut into pieces and distribute tomorrow morning among the sub-groups of 'girls'

And, yes, that squash was so large, I had to remove all but the bottom grate for it to fit....and if you look closely, it is bowing that oven grate! It should take the girls at least 10 min to devour it tomorrow!!!

I missed that something had happened to her. It sounds almost like nerve damage that Butter dealt with. With cage rest, therapy and time, almost 3 months, she was back to walking with a slight limp. After about 5 months the limp was gone and she was back to running.
She got 'sliced' (side & thigh), plus thigh bone broken, by either a fox or raccoon. Suspect fox, as I think a racoon would have grabbed and pulled hard enough she would be dead. but🤷‍♀️. Anyways, splinted as best I could (squirming chicken ,trying to hold leg in place, and wrap securely with splints, by yourself, is a bit of a challenge.) last Monday morning removed splint (after 6 full days!) and leg was knitted enough to be 'firm'. She, at that point, could move upper lag some, but not at all lower leg nor toes. Been doing therapy 2 - 3 times a day...and in just shy of a week, there is noticeable improvement, so I am hopeful. (If she didn't regain any use of leg, 'hopping' soley on one leg would not have been good enough quality of life. BUT: if she can at least 'limp on it', I think she will be okay!)
