Hi, friends. I’m feeling quite under the weather and look at this very sweet visitor I have right now. I’m not waiting till post since it’s already Monday in Australia. She’s at the bottom of the pecking order, so doesn’t visit my lap very often. However, I know she enjoys it, as she was hand raised and liked to nap on me as a chick. Her little visit warms my soul.

A Job Mostly Done

It was time to figure out the roost. I decided to split the roost in 3. Two thirds would be the original 2x4 the third in the middle and higher is the roost from the prefab that Daisy, the greatest hen ever, and Maleficent loved so much. I had to find a way to include it. It is a little lower the high roost that Sydney and Aurora love but higher than the main roost.

I built the roosts without the floor installed, then took them down, installed the floor and put them back up.

At this time it was getting dark and everyone wanted to roost. Sydney and Aurora roosted without a roof and Hattie and Betty went into nest boxes. Phyllis, Glynda, and Lady Featherington went into the Cluckle Hut. You can see in this photo I still need to put the second piece of roof up.

I got the second piece of roof up and it was dark. Totally dark. No moon.

Once the roof was all on, Hattie left the nest box to lay on the floor.

It was still early so I decided to paint the roof by lantern.

I did manage to get a coating on. I bet it's ugly but if it does rain it will provide some kind of protection.

I will need to remove the second piece of roof tomorrow and glue it to the first piece in order to seal the joint so rain cannot get in. There is also a ton of brush from the tree to be cleaned up as well.

All in all a successful day. I rewarded myself with some sushi. 😁

Wow, Great job, Bob!! I love the new roost set up. It is really like giving them 3 separate roosts, yet all are still long enough for 'friends' to roost together. as ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ :thumbsup:thumbsup they might say in GB "Bang-up job!

Here's hoping they like the new arrangement. Sydney seemed excited by the new roost. She can get up high and get away from Aurora.

Ooooo I love this reminiscing. 🥰

Bad bob 😊 now I have that song stuck in my head (great song!)
