Grandma is coming at you in the kitchen. It was so cold that I had to bring her inside even though she is usually in the leaf pile on the bottom but this morning, she was sitting in her box. Mozzarella is usually outside when I go over to the chicken coop to see how everyone's doing. She's preparing on what she's going to buy for Thanksgiving dinner. This morning was 38 F, now it's 40 F and today is supposed to be 46. Tuesday, we're expecting rain and Wednesday or Thursday, we're expecting SNOW :wee This weekend will be a real doozy because 37 F on Saturday and 38 F on Sunday with sun is a reminder that 2 weeks ago was when I experienced 70 F weather. We won't be experiencing this again until March, possibly late February. So until then... enjoy the so-so horrible weather. At least the air quality is great.
When did snow get on our forecast! No! It's too soon. :barnie

Im surprised @bgmathteach did not point this out but I think you have at least 10 layers likely 11. There are only 7 days in a week. They all would have had to lay 8 eggs in 7 days. That is unlikely.
Hmmmm, you didn't read my previous post closely, ha, ha, ha

(I think I did it correctly - linking to the 🤷‍♀️ post. YAY! I learned something new if I did. Oh, well, par for the course with me & technology if I didn't!

Nice to see you Grandma. I hope the weather is not too cold where you are now.
It was 32 when I got up but 38 now, total overcast but should clear off.
OK, Got the last cup of coffee; the little 5cup coffee pot is now empty,
added some wood to the fire, fed the dogs.

I started painting the nesting box on Saturday, did the bottom first,-- its just going to be one open box-- no fights over 1 of 6 nesting boxes.
:he DH picked up a gallon of exterior paint at walmart when we were there last week. Yes I wanted just white,,,, yes this is a can of,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, BASE paint :gigwhen DH put it in the cart I didnt ask, but when I started painting I said, gee hon,,,,, this looks quite different its drying clear??????? DH: well isnt it white? ya, it goes on white BUT it is JUST base :he He said we could pickup some with color, and I said we will next May. I put a heavy coat on and the wood is sealed from mites/bugs so its fine honey,

They didn't put me on anything as there was a cancer scare (thankfully no cancer when they checked everything after pulling it). At the post op check, they said as long as I wasn't having menopausal symptoms, there was no need to put me on hormones. 4+ years later, still no pills. (And no monthly emotional roller-coaster) @RebeccaBoyd something to ask about. If you don't have to take meds, could be worth it....
I wont be put on estrogen replacers. Thanks to my grandmother and mother. My grandmother had breast cancer 25 years ago. Mom has a lump that is benign but they keep a check on it every 6 months, if it ever grows it has to go. Thanks to that my dr is afraid the estrogen will increase my chances for breast cancer. I know I'm in for a rough ride the first year or so after the surgery as my body gets used to no estrogen but I'm not afraid. Well, I lied, never had surgery before so that does worry me. I have been wondering if it is not just my back that has made riding the horses unbearable, those darn cysts could be adding to it. Once I'm healed I told Rosie the first thing I'm doing is hopping on Russ. If I can hop back on a horse again and even ride for 30 minutes here and there and not suffer afterwards, you have no idea the joy that will give me again.

I spotted the red and then saw BY Bobs reply and that got me counting. I forgot Corona, Baby and Holly in my initial count somehow. I blame that on those 3 girls laying schedule. Every few days they all 3 decide to lay on the same day, usually one or two of them is taking the day off. Actually we got a few more eggs then that, dad had eggs for breakfast a few times this week and I did not count those. The previous week I got 5 dozen. It helps keeping track as I know how many dozen I sold and when they left Monday I had no eggs left until they laid that day.

I like the spikes idea. It's disconcerting to see it perched there.
Bird deterrent spikes are readily available and easy to apply. You would need someone with a cherry picker to get up there - probably you need the town's OK to do so but it isn't going to damage anything so maybe they will be OK with it.
Good luck!

I don’t think I have posted this here yet. My winter modifications mainly consist of some repurposed strip curtains that I can adjust in several configurations depending on weather. I have some corrugated plastic I will be putting on the door to block drafts from that part. Main goal is to stop cold wind from hitting the roosts, and to block excessive rain when it might ice up, while leaving lots of ventilation. I still need to add strip curtains to the side that is open/partially exposed. And I bought a heated waterer (still have to run the cord and plug it in.)

A bonus Mug. Speedy wants to know where her treat is.

And an attempt at a pretty feather picture (Jasmine). Not as good as @knoturavggrl, but kind of pretty.
