I was checking the weather but the squalls just move so fast and unpredictable! And most of the time I hadn't any cell signal and was relying on truckers giving info on the CB radio... away from the lakes now thankfully!

I am in Ignace, going to Kenora, I had a time change so gained an hour. Its 3:19Central Time

But 4:19 eastern time!

And just about bedtime for the kiddos!

You’re covering a lot of ground! Following you on the map.
Stay safe.

Roosting drama.
Bernie stood on the platform for a good 15 minutes being periodically told by Diana that she didn’t want to be forced away from the wall.
Then this.

Poor Diana. Shame on you, Bernie! Diana is your elder AND molting...give her a break!

(That said, I actually love that move of yours to get what you want. Pretty smart!)

Can i make a suggestion regarding your heater? I have mine pointed done the roost so everyone gets heat. Your hens are not actually roosting in front of that heater at night when they snuggle up to the wall.

There is no stopping that Bernie! 🤣
I love the sheer faith that somehow she will land where she wants regardless that the spot is taken. Strangely, the preferred spot is far from the heater. It is very cold tonight so I am hoping they both shuffle along a bit to be nearer the heater.

Yes. But if I put it on the wall it will warm only one chicken: Bernie.
The warmth only extends a foot - 18" max from the front surface of the heater (at least the one I got - maybe you have a stronger one?

I went to visit the chickens this afternoon and discovered the wind was just the right direction to blow snow into the coop through the south opening. I have it about half covered with furnace filter material, but the top 8" or so is just hardware cloth.

I stapled a piece of shower curtain over the opening, and my, what a difference! I don't want to lose that amount of ventilation, so I need to find some more furnace filter to put on there. I might just staple up some t-shirts.
