Humans could learn a trick from that tribe.
This is exactly my thinking. When I think of all the prejudice against those that are noticeably different from the arbitrary norm we have as humans. this tribe at least behave in a way that humans should, but unfortunately rarely do. I was watching her again tonight at supper.

For me, the story @Ribh (that's pronounced "reeve" ;) ) tells about losing a hen that never recovered from the weight loss is a cautionary tale. @Shadrach seems to manage his broodies better than those of us with contained flocks. I think the environment they live in plays into what we need to do as well.
Now you have Sydney, Bob, I suspect you will gain a whole lot more experience with broodiness.

Caught her!
The past couple of mornings when I've opened up Tribe 2 there has been egg shell on the floor. I know the egg didn't come from the nest boxes because I count them.
I've just been out to do Lock and Mags legs and found Nolia tucking into an egg she had laid while on the roost that I assume broke when it hit the shelf below.
I've had a few night time layers over the years, Tap being the most recent. Tap has stopped now and lays in the house nest box. It seems to happen if their regular laying spot gets disturbed.

Hi, By Bob.
I am a new chicken mom. I have been reading your thread here. Your thread is the reason I started an account. :love I am only on page 200 but thought I'd introduce myself, knowing you'd be getting tons of alerts for all my "likes".
My girls are about 10 weeks old. I cannot believe how fast they grow and I am quickly becoming a "crazy chicken lady". I could sit and watch them for hours.
I'd love to join your flock here.

Hi Laura, welcome! This is a great little community within a community, very supportive and chatty! :frow

Yep. I get the occasional night time drop. I thought it was their cycle extending into the evening as every hen seems to lay a little later each day till I have one or 2 in the nesting boxes @ roosting time. The night time sitters then lay very early in the morning but so far as I can tell not every hen does it. 🤔

You will need to have followed the stories about Treacle to get this.
"Is that all mine?"
