I felt the same way over Maleficent. It took me a while to realize that nature plays a role. It is hard. Try not to beat yourself up too much.Bob, I love my animals so much, I can not help but blame myself for their sicknesses.
my obsession with chickens is taking a toll on my personal life now, and that's not a good thing!
I Actually had a life until all these chickens came into it!I felt the same way over Maleficent. It took me a while to realize that nature plays a role. It is hard. Try not to beat yourself up too much.
Yes your correct about the flushing and the fly spray! Batheing did no good for me. @featherhead007 if you need any pointers feel free to reach out to meHi Jaffar! Your dad is doing his best for you!
I was reading the flystrike thread that you posted on Featherhead .

As far as I can tell they came to the conclusion that flushing out the maggotty area with salty water using a squirty bottle and treating with that insecticidal spray worked the best. That way the maggots don't use the bath to swim onto other places. Is this what you are doing?
I'm very interested in what you find works best. I had a hen die of egg binding/flystrike before I discovered BYC and it totally freaked me out. I never want it to happen again.
Are you seeing any progress with Jaffar? Does he have wounds/pits? I hope he is progressing well. It looks like it took @FlockFromPa about 10 days to get her rooster better. Hopefully Jaffar will improve even more quickly if he isn't as bad .
After I had stripped out the nest; yet again, she went and sat on a few eggs in the maternity unit. Then it started to hammer down with rain and she came into the house. after about an hour she made the escort call and hovered by the door. I picked her up and carried her up to the coop. When I looked in tonight she was fast asleep with her head under her wing and dind't stir when I opened the back to do the bum count. This is unusual for her so I guess all the excitement had worn her out.
Day 13: Another Calm Day
BY Bob's nerves are slowly recovering. There was not a lot of angst today. Sydney emerged within 5 minutes of yesterday's time and the temp in the coop was nearly identical to yesterday. 10:20 am and 79.4°F (26.3°C).
She ate, bathed, pooed, and groomed. Then she returned to the coop. The usual 30 min. What a good girl or should I say, Mommy to be.
While she was doing that I got brave and checked out her nest. There they are. 3 precious little eggs.

Omelette the Hen - Mayor for a Day
Today we went bike riding.. there is a really nice trail near my sisters that runs for miles.. when we came to the town we stopped at a cafe and got snowballs.. and that’s when I met Omelette! She has been living here at the cafe for 5 years... and she is 10 years old! Of course when I saw a chicken I had to go see her... I sat down to talk with her and even shared my snowball with her ... she was adorable! She must be pretty special here as the local college kids came and built her coop! Oh, and she was declared Mayor for a day in the small town of Abita Springs, Louisiana!View attachment 2177406View attachment 2177407View attachment 2177408View attachment 2177409View attachment 2177410View attachment 2177411View attachment 2177416
