Thanks, the owl is seriously tiny, about the size of a robin. A snowy owl would get tangled in our netting, but I was worried that this owl could fit between the wires in my fencing, but it doesn't sound like that's how it hunts. I have let the hens out into the big run as it's a lovely mild day (-10C) and I want them to enjoy themselves.
Bistro laid the first egg since last October!! :love
Good Show Bistro! Thank you for your contribution :)

I am only getting one egg a day from one of the Silkies now, go figure it would be a Silkie!

Netting won’t stop an owl. I’m not sure about the size, but I have Barn and Pygmy owls that haven’t been a bother to the chickens at all (about 1/3 the size of a chicken). I have had a LOT of problems with Eastern Barred though. They are preferred bird eaters, and easily large and aggressive enough to take out 1-7chickens at a time. They also climb readily and can use this to slip between your netting and trees/hay bales. They are not protected in my area as a destructive and invasive species. If it’s a very small owl it might not be a problem, but caution is advised for sure.
Thanks for this information. I will keep a lookout. The dogs let us know whenever the owl returns. It has been here four or five different times in the last 24 hours.

Rosie will not be satisfied until we can throw Trigonometry into the chicken math equations. Yes folks, since school went back she has been doing trig triangle equations in honors geometry. I'm clueless and lost as she goes "mom what is so hard about this, it is easy". She is still claiming forensic toxicology or pathology for college. I say if she does not come out of college as some sort of mathematician she is missing her calling.
Statistics then !

Dear Aurora,
Berthie, or Lassie here, my human mom gets us mixed up all the time. Let's simplify it and just call me one of the Queens, I like that better personally myself. Look what I laid this morning. I added extra bloom on it and it is pink in your honor. I informed my mom she needed to photograph it, she claims it looks brown still in photo's even though it is pink in person. She cannot do anything right and now it appears us hens need to learn to take the pictures as well.

What is the point of doing the extra work so I stand out from the flock if your human looks at you and says in pictures it is brown?
Well done Bertie/Lassie :) You are indeed a wonderful chicken - keep after your human - my chickies have beat it into me that they are the boss - and I am happy for them to be the boss....

Nice pink egg!

Dirt update.

He is not coughing as continuously this morning. Looking at him though he clearly still feels bad. He is wheezing but to hear it you need the stethoscope.
Poor fella :(

Is he still getting Bute for the next few days? boy these animals are going to give us grey hair!

Grey Hair Tax
This morning everyone was having a blast running around having fun

Good morning FBA! Since today is 53 F and rainy, I decided not to wear a coat that makes me look like a blue marshmallow.
Remember when I said about Grandma getting jealous in the house because of the cat and started crying her microscopic eyes out? Well, here is an ACTUAL photo of when it happened. Also, update on the cat, she doesn't want to eat. My mom thinks she might be sick but we don't really know.View attachment 3373314
An extreme close-up of Grandma for no particular reason.

Grandma couldn't keep still so she washes the laundry. Those are chemicals, Grandma! At least she's helping out around the house.

Grandma is a character for sure :)

How is the kitty today?

Oh and I LOVE those wattles in that one photo - lovely!
