So one can also say from past experience that they could be a 50 / 50 mix of males and females. Unless you're @RebeccaBoyd in which case your split will be more like 90% males and 10% females.

And going forward one could postulate that poor Rebecca is slated to continue with her high male to female ratio! Poor Rebecca!
Now ratios! This math talk has to stop. My head hurts! 😫

But as of right now, we have Internet, power, and running water. However, our little water company is in dire straits. Several homes still do not have running water, so the rest of us are in major conservation mode. Did I post that giant eucalyptus tree that went down? It was about 200 feet tall, snapped a powerline, and a half, took out the Internet lines, and broken water main.

I feel very fortunate that we have fared quite well here at our property. We can manage without power for awhile just fine. The water was tricky, but it’s back on. There have been so many downed trees and mudslides around us, we’re feeling super fortunate to have chosen a property that is not really in danger of a mudslide.

The generator was fickle, and we had some trouble with it, but I just treated myself to the Jackery 2000 pro. I hope I don’t have to use it for a while, but I’m so glad to have it. My hubby also thinks we should get a much larger generator for the future, along with water storage tank.
Oh wow that is terrible your way - be safe.

I put a Generac in for the house, 16KW, if the power is out longer than 5seconds it cuts in; it runs all the major stuff in the house: furnace, sump pump, well pump, lights. And the barn - so I have lights, and water for the horses and chickens. It was pricey but good piece of mind with my being away so much.

They won’t be available until late February or March.

Perfect! By then I will require lots of chick fixes, not seeing my kiddos 😟

Hattie is a real dual purpose lady at over 7 lbs. She is much heavier than yours.

That is a good sized hen, even Penelope is only about 5.3lbs and I think she is a big chicken.

That's too bad - is this Farm Show a Fair of sorts?
It is essentially an indoor fair held every January. There is a huge indoor complex with 2 arenas. They judge animals, have a rodeo, etc. It is amazing. No poultry for 3 years now though.

Here are some cows and a goat from our visit.

They also have amazing food. The milkshakes are to die for, honey ice cream, cheese cubes, apple cider, all just amazing. It's a taste of summer in the winter. It is a real showcase of farming in PA.

Sounds fun, honey ice cream sounds amazing! I lover Jersey cows they are so lovely. We have a similar thing here in the first week of November (Royal Winter Fair - we call it The Royal), in Toronto. Big time farm show for cattle, and horses - international showjumping and dressage. And they have all the Fair foods, though no honey ice cream :)

They always have some interesting farming things going on. Most years they have a calving happening (they have a place where people can watch mama having her calf). They have goats, sheep, and swine also. Along with Rabbit, Cavy (guinea pigs), and Poultry shows - the Royal is usually the end of year championships for Rabbits, Cavy and Poultry. I bred and showed Rabbits in my younger years (and Cavy :) ). I had Rex, and Netherland Dwarfs - they were a lot of fun!

It looks like the same as our Royal - and yes always a lot of fun! I always ate too much and walked too much
:love ❤️

This is the weird thing with the four Buff Orpingtons that live here. They are very busy ladies, first to jump off the roost in the morning, last to roost at night, always zooming around being their curious selves taking care of serious chicken business. They are also much lighter than your typical Orp at around 4.5 pounds. They will be three years old this summer, so they're not babies by any means. When they were younger they did the same zooming around, but then they ran and flapped their wings at the same time. They are slightly more dignified now! :love
My Cashew was small for an Orpington, too. Very fluffy and LOOKED big, but it was mostly feather.

Yup. There was a calving happening here as well Wednesday afternoon. Same kind of event it seems.
