How big are silkies? Leghorns are not large chickens.

Well mine are actually not that much smaller than my other chickies, but I wouldn’t put more than 3or4 eggs or chicks under them. Chiquita is doing awesome with 6!

Does anyone know how to stop the chooks from digging up the yard? What a disaster area they made of the grass.
I don’t want to keep them locked up.

You cannot stop them as it is "The Way of the Chicken" to scratch for food. They will do it even when eating from a feeder. Although some chickens do scratch more than others. Orpingtons are not really into scratching while leghorns love to dig.

My grandma thinks she is going to take over a spot in the front yard for a small garden and the chickens will leave it alone.

With good fencing they will.

My Nellie is louder than the roosters.. and squawks for an hour BEFORE laying an egg...and if anyone is in a nestbox, regardless of whether or not she wants to lay in the occupied box.

They have BIG personalities.
