Babs laid another egg just now. I haven’t taken it inside yet to weigh it, but it looks much more normal for a hen of her size. Maybe a Medium in grocery store terms. There is more color to it and it is completely smooth. It feels like she is getting the hang of it all.
She also booted out the ceramic egg (brown) that was in ‘her’ nest. Interestingly she moved it to a nest box two doors down. She clearly doesn’t want a brown egg-layer neighbor!
:lau

@bgmathteach - would you expect her to be a prolific layer, or is 3 eggs in 4 days just a sign she is learning? I like having eggs but really hope my Princesses don't wear themselves out laying every day!

Well I did build a coop big enough for 12 (7x7) 49 sq feet! But I think 4 chickens -3 hens - will do for now. (My rooster, Manny, was supposed to be a hen.)

They were Eenie, Meanie, Miney (now Manny) and Sheba...because I didn't want no Moe. ;)
🤦‍♂️ I’m impressed! Someone with worse puns than me.

hahaha good one.

But....

There are really good enablers on here - they will weadle their way into your head and whisper thoughts of cute babies in your ear.... and before you know it you've ordered 10 baby chicks! haha!

I have never dealt with a broody hen. I would be terrified!
Yup - they are like something out of The Exorcist for sure! The noises they make if both terrifying and hilarious! Something so tiny making so much threatening noises!

It's a good thing chickens are not 6' tall - otherwise they would be a real threat to humans :)

So this has been going off and on for almost a hour now and I cannot even blame Raven for it. Actually, I will, they clearly learned this behavior from her and copied it. This drama is involving 2 hens, and neither one has laid a egg yet I should mention.
Berthie needs to lay her egg, but the box is occupied. She has actually been in the box twice already but another hen threw the same fit when she was in it so she has left without laying. Only to return about 10 minutes later and do this so that the 2nd hen involved will leave without laying.
Poor Twig, he has given up coming to the porch. He has tried to solve the matters already by getting in the 2nd unoccupied box to show the girls that there is a empty box. They ignored him and now he is questioning his purpose in life. Maybe his dad is on to something and he should devote all his time and attention to the mothers bringing up the next generation.
The other hen leaves once again without laying a egg. She will be back though in a few minutes and she herself will start up the complaining. Watch and see who the other guilty culprit of nest box drama is.
Berthie finally got into the box and is silent. Maybe this time she will actually lay before you know who comes back.

Yes, somehow Raven is to blame for this.
