Hello everyone,

Been playing the catching-up-this-thread game. Congratulations to Bernie @RoyalChick Sorry @GregnLety about your sweet fat lady's passing. Congratulations to @Ponypoor and @knoturavggrl on getting brahamas. Congratulations to @TX Chick Noob on getting chicken time. I loved Rebecca's videos. I am sure I have missed lots of important events.

Chicken math has gotten to us. (No, it is more like we are fed up with city and its anti-chicken attitude). We are going to buy land and be farmers!!?? A new adventure?? For now, the plan is to buy land 30 minutes away, live in a trailer, sell our current house, and start to build a house in new land. And we will have LOTS OF chickens. Yummy yummy. We will still be working fully, so no, not farmers, but I will be starting a permaculture dream on my land.

I have no pictures, but I do have a precious broody video from last year, which seems very appropriate for spring.

I hope everyone is having a good night.

Awesome!!! Buy your own land, I’m not sure where you’re located… but avoid propane heat and just get a 4 season RV or plan to build a quick addition and stick a woodstove or diesel heater in there ASAP. Your dream will take longer than you want, but it’s 100% worth it. So many chickens, and goats, and maybe even cows. Cows are lovely!

Ok I will check in later on in a few hours (I am sure I will be up my RLS is acting up bad tonight), see how you are doing 💕
I just checked and Lucky is still alive. She moved off her heat pad and placed herself right under Flo’s arse. I moved the poop away and scooched Flo over. I offered baby bird formula. Lucky smacked her lips, but didn’t take any. At least the wind has calmed down and it hopefully will not dip below 36°F tonight.

It’s almost midnight, so I’m going to sleep. Nighties.

@lightm might want to start their own thread. I can see this being worth its own dedicated conversation. @Kris5902 has her own for quite a while and there are many people that followed her thread and not mine.
😆 right up until I moved into Bob’s thread full time, abandoned my own, then took a brief hiatus completely and worried some dear folks a bit… and about the same time I returned to BYC there were a few “whatever happened to???” Mentions. It’s a big life commitment. I wasn’t able to keep up with everything and keep posting, so I dropped a lot of internet stuff to compensate. It’s also why I barely keep up here, Although this is my Chicken Family ❤️.

Beware the chicken Math! Honestly, If you get much over 100-130 chickens I find you start to not connect as closely with them all as well. It’s why I am more close to my Roosters, who then take care of their hens. I still have a few hens I’m close with, but mostly they belong and look to their guys more than me.

You can do it! And if you do start a separate thread/conversation… tag me in! Please… I’d love to be able to make it easier in any way for you, and follow along.

If she does pass in the night, she’s doing so with her flock. That is good in many ways. It’s so hard to let them go… much love Lucky. May you go peacefully to that big coop in the sky.

Did she puck her thread back up? I missed that!
I Didn’t… sorry, maybe once I get the house settled a bit better I will have time to update. I asked if anyone was interested in following a more house build discussion and did start a conversation, just to keep it from snowballing too much, or me spamming Fluffy Butt Acres with all my house updates and such. I haven’t been making much progress since last fall, but the kind folks encouraging me there are basically keeping me going when I am pretty sure I’d have tossed in the towel on it. Winter wasn’t particularly roofing friendly… but I’m going to get it done in 2023!

Hi folks. Popping in. Sad to say Lucky is in her final days, if not hours. I could probably tube feed to keep her going a bit longer, but that would be cruel and prolong suffering.

It seems the other chickens know. Here she is with Little Mill sitting vigil before I left today.

I'm sad to read this :(
As Kelly said you have done absolutely everything that could possibly be done too keep her comfortable and she has her besty little mill, for emotional support that has to be the best thing
