Kencove certainly have pos neg poultry netting. I think Premier do too.

Thank you, and I've found it on Premier and will look at Kencove. I could not get to any pos/neg poultry netting (only the electronet for large animals) on Premier's site when I was on my tablet, and the same on my phone. Now on the PC I find it in one second! Uneven ground and sneaking under or digging might be an issue. Have to give it more thought. Thank you!

A favorite mug, Queenie in January 2021. She got everyone doing the egg song when she started laying, and then everyone was singing whenever anybody laid. Now that she's gone, no one sings the egg song reliably anymore. It's once in a great while. The Buckeyes are hatchery born, but with her they always sang, and they continued for a while after she passed. But it's pretty sporadic now. They wail needing to get into the nest box and lay, and also somebody almost crows once in a while, which is great to hear. But very little egg song. Strange!
I think I'm going to get at least two Buff Orpingtons in Queenie's honor when I get more chickens, as @RebeccaBoyd suggested.

Rebecca brings Branch in to watch TV with her - I let my kiddos in my office, AND join in my online meetings! And I have had Fluffy and Curly decked out in their lovely flowery skirts during last year's winter It's all good I say!

Of course we are all gr'ups with our own houses so we can make our own rules hahahaha! (Oh wait mum's yelling at me, telling me 'I hope you aren't planning on getting any more chickens' - how does she know these things? Is she psychic??)

Rent, utilities, phone and internet, car payment, doing all the housework, all the chores, and often all of this on top of a 40hr work week… and let’s not even broach the possibility of roommates and those complications, eh? Collecting rent from all roommates, on time, covering the rent when one moves out because they got feed up with another one eating all their snacks… toss in pets and rescue livestock?

Enjoy living with your family as long as you can! Stay home, milk it for all it’s worth! Get a job and get a solid head start, save a bunch of cash, and help support your family for a bit before you move out…

Sometimes finding a Husband/Wife makes things easier, sometimes it also makes some things harder. I didn’t realize how good I had it, and wish we had had enough space to have stayed home! Grandma, Mom, Me, and my Boyfriend… all living in a 1000sq foot 2 bedroom apartment with only one bathroom wasn’t sustainable. I moved out around 17 years old.

I think getting some in her honor would be a lovely thing to do. I wondered whether to do the same and get a RIR in honor of Maggie, but I think maybe not this year.

I totally have to brag on my genius husband. I'm generally the more handy of the two of us when it comes to ways to think outside the box, but he had a moment of inspiration yesterday.

Our pop door has been made from particle board. It doesn't get too wet, but the moisture makes it swell and stick at times. I was cursing it last night and my husband thought of the perfect replacement.

It's a $10 cutting board from Walmart. The thing is sturdy, slick, and heavier than the plywood. It also fit perfectly! I never would have thought of it.

Not that I would want to be a youth again, but being a gr'up is nothing but stress sometimes!

I couldn't wait to move out! I ended up buy my parents place (now I am not only ponypoor but mortgage poor!). hahahahaha!

I know that this is Dollar General, but why are the eggs so cheap! What happened to inflation? The 8 dollar eggs?

Price is dictated by supply, and elasticity of demand, not to mention substitution. Which means if there is a large supply of the eggs they will be cheaper, but then you need to take into account the different varieties (free-range, omega...etc) and how much demand there is for those as opposed to the supply of more generic eggs. Also if one can substitute the eggs for something else (lets say those liquid eggs - ewwww!).

So these $3.75 eggs are likely a generic brand/factory farmed egg as opposed to by_bob's Vital Farm's eggs which I am sure are a premium price. OR our farm fresh eggs that people will pay more for.

(Another thing that you will learn about when you leave home - economics 101!)

Hmmm....think of chickens. They want to be 'free', too. but that means: no protection, no one buying and providing your food, no one doing your laundry (in the chicken case, cleaning out your coop), etc., etc. ,etc. There are pros and cons to both cases.

Chicken Pro: more moving around, variety of insects and seeds and grass. Healthier and happier
Cons: More likely to be killed by a predator, to go hungry at times, to be cold and wet at times, no comfy bedding - except what you might scratch together.

I'm sure you can relate this to your personal situation.

Well I just had the gambit of emotions there! The chicks were awesome... the fox almost made me cry for poor Roxanne and Stanley (I am obviously not over that), and then that snow chicken..... then the happy rescue

Eat them, nope more like eat you if you look at them the wrong way. Actually I would bet on Eli or Babs going broody first since they were broody raised. I'm glad the Eli mystery was solved and she just wanted company. Another reason why you need a boy, he would have known right away what the problem was.

Hm, true. Its not that I don't want to move out and leave my family and home, it's just that I want to be able to rescue animals and get more chickens.

Make sure that 1) you get a good education and then a good job because 2) you will need money to do this - and lots of it, if you want to keep them all in excellent housing and feed. (OMG I sound like my parents hahaha - they were SOOOOOO right - don't tell them that BTW....). AND get a partner that likes the same things as you

Then you can have chickens, and ponies, and goats, and guineas, even camels! (I so want a camel and an emu.... and some of Kris' battle cassowary)....

Ohhhh! Let's all start a ( I don't know what you would call it... not a pension, because you wouldn't sign it....) a... a thing where we just say "Get a rooster @RoyalChick! "

Oh don't worry - there are enough enablers (people who are encouraging her) on here - she 'will join the dark side'; how do you think it is that I have 10 chicks on order and paid for (even with my mother yelling at me 'I hope you aren't planning on getting any more chickens'.....).

They have been wearing me down all winter with the 'when you get back Marty will have a dozen chicks in tow'....

Willing Workers On Organic Farms. Usually younger folks in their early 20’s, often from Europe. People who will work limited hours on farms in exchange for housing and meals, but no pay. A lot of people do this to see other parts of the world. It’s a program where you pay a small fee to register and it allows people to coordinate their stay. It supposed to be about 20hrs a week of work. It’s basically what has kept this farm afloat the past decade or so, without any younger folks to help with labor.
