I'm sad about it because Bob's a friend and I miss out on his updates.

Yes it's a busy thread - I skip back and forth and read here and there till I have to gist of what's up. And hope I don't miss things! But I do, and that's ok.

Well she was until I got a hold of her. I tell you, I shouldn't keep chickens. I have the chicken raising equivalent of a brown thumb.

Just keep an eye on her, and take deep breaths. If I had to go by squishy crops as a dire sign of health all my kiddos would be one foot in the grave! And poop - sheesh - they are always having liquid poops, watery poops, heck I even had WORMS in the poop - remember that one! How freaked out I was!

Your chickens are healthy happy kiddos. So lets just take a step back and wait and see what's up - as Bob said, don't go by one or so odd poops - if it's consistently like that then we worry.

They're fine. Excuse me, it's a work day and I'm a little hectic.

Don't be too hard on your dad. My parents were the same. (Granted, I'm old enough to be your grandma.) But many farmers are. We didn't even keep dogs and cats if they weren't useful. To be truthful, my plan was to get chickens and once they stopped laying it would be soup pot time. But now...I don't think I could eat any of my girls. Some day I might raise meat birds, but I'll be extra sure not to give them names.

I promise, at the poultry eval, I was not abusing the animals.

I don't think anyone thought you were. Your typo was unfortunate.

That situation would have put me in a furious mood and I would have caused a real problem with those people.

Me too! That is definitely one of the few perks of being a grown-up.

I’m still having trouble training Dakota. She won’t snuggle. She refuses to do anything I say. She knows every thing that I do and chooses not to care. I think she misses her sister Arizona. And she poops on me lately!

I think her pooping on you lately says it all.

"Human, you can't train me - I know what you are up to, so here, take this!"

If she doesn't want to be snuggled, that is okay. Just sit nearby and chat with her, and give her a few treats for having to sit and listen to your chatter.

No worries, the training will be complete in NO time! (Her training of you, that is!)

It really is like a full time job keeping up here now… I understand completely, I can’t keep up on anything else and this at the same time. (I’m on my mid day check in here to not get swamped by the 20+ pages generated daily

You are so good to your chickens, very knowledgable, and any chicken that graces your Palace is blessed to be in your care. Just because you had a run of issues doesn't mean they are your fault. You did all you could!

This is a great story. And maybe, since I have a registered chihuahua for a support animal, is why I keep so many chickens. My chickens physically calm me when I sit with them. Sometimes I have to go take a nap.

Oh, you mean like 'Evil 'ol Bat'/Momma hen??

Yes exactly like her, but only wanting to maybe go broody once or twice in their lifetime. If that hen was not in some stage of broody or evilness about 80% of the time I do not think I would call her evil or ole bat. That 20% of the year, she is a good layer and a agreeable hen. I thought by now she would be done with Madea, she was starting to wean off her chicks so I sold her 3 siblings. The loss of those 3 has caused Momma to decide that she is not done with her and she is sticking to her like glue again.
