He sure is a lovely boy - and lovely colours. Glad he is staying closer, and not letting himself be chased off completely 💕

This is actually sort of a family picture for Twig. The black silkie is his father Branch. The marans hen beside him is his mother Corona.

He sure picked up the Marans colouring - Is that Bubba to the far right?
Rosie needed an escort to the coop Tuesday.

Nice egg for an old lady - I am surprised that Sophia gave me an egg 2 days in a row, she is 4 this year I think.

Little Eli has problems
Eli has been having issues this week and I keep delaying sharing here as I have spent most days unsure if she would pull through.
It has now been almost a week and it is unclear how this will resolve and I am sharing now so you know what she is dealing with and can send good thoughts her way.

About a week ago Eli became egg bound. I spent a day and a half giving calcium, inserting lubricant, and frantically calling vets. Finally she laid an egg and was much better for a whole day.
Then it happened again. This time she spent two days straining and crying out. I have put the video in a spoiler as it is a bit distressing.

Then on Tuesday, after a morning of straining, she laid two eggs. TWO eggs!
One of them was regular sized, the other weighed 3 ounces.
The 3 ounce one was a monster of an egg and had two yolks. These photos give a sense of the comparison of the two eggs - the smaller one is a regular size egg.

Poor little girl. No wonder she was in distress!
As well as the straining I also noticed that her legs got weak. She couldn't jump up and spent 2 nights roosting down on the roost. Babs agreed to stay with her and Bernie was very well behaved.

I really hoped that the issue was resolved once that monster egg was out, but sadly she is egg bound again now. She had a good day today running around outside, but yesterday she was in the nest box straining for 2 hours, and at 4:30 this morning she flew down from the rafters in the dark and spent another 2 hours straining in the nest box.

Having talked to multiple vets there is not really anything I can do for her except hope for the best.

Poor little Eli.
Poor Eli, lots of good thoughts and prayers coming her way. This reminds me of Daisy. One day she was fine and about 30 minutes later she could not walk. Was not sure what was wrong with her as she was not straining at all. Kept her in a box in the bathroom for 2 days and she finally passed a monster egg. After that egg passed she was fine and up and about. I do think that huge egg was the start of her problems. She laid maybe 7 more that season. This was all before a year of age. The remaining year and a half of her life she would go through the motions of laying a egg but produced roughly a dozen more. Maybe tonight a good warm epsom salt soak may benefit her.

I did give her a bath at some point in all this. I decided not to do so again as she never really relaxed. The vet's view was some hens relax and it can help and some don't.
Also just practically right now she is up in the rafters (legs not weak today) so I can't get her down.
The vet suggested that instead of a bath I can put hot damp compresses up against her vent and I might try that during the day tomorrow,

Oh no poor wee gal - that is such a terrible thing to be going through. That is a monster egg.

Is she sitting in a penguin fashion? Apparently that is a sure give away for being egg bound :(

OK well I am hoping for the best and glad the other 2 are keeping her company.

Edit: Was able to see the video - oh yes that penguin posture - oh dear, poor wee lass - ok I am hoping that she gets through this stage of laying big eggs and settles into more normal sized egg 💕 💕 💕

The weather was nice today except for the flooding:

Oh no poor Eli. I hope she gets better soon and it straightens itself out.

Im gonna say Im a little worried. My red and white blood count is high along with hemostatin and hemoglobin, I know I dont have an infection because I just finished 2 rounds of antibiotics last week. I felt fine this morning but threw up again this afternoon. My sides and gut hurt off and on. I feel like its been going on awhile and ties into my weakness and dizziness. I cant wait to hear from the dr tomorrow. I have a ct scan april 4th first thing in the morning. My hubby has been taking care of animals and making sure my chooks have food and water and are locked in at night. The baby chicks are doing ok. And the silkies will be hatching any day now. I have a lot of chickens to take care of and cant afford anything major.

I hope they figure out what the problem is soon so you can get better.
