She tries to get them in 90 min to 2 hours before dusk. She gets more upset the longer it takes. My concern last night was that she kept calling them from inside the coop and the chicks started wandering everywhere.

I may let it play out longer tonight as long as I can stay on top of the chicks and what they are doing.
Do you think they would go in if you put them at the top of the ramp while she was calling?

How is Barney's beak Kris? I'm assuming that no news is good news and that it is slowly healing. :fl

so far so good, today he was eating solid pellets... he still seems a bit down at times, but ttheblood and crustiness is all gone, and I think it’s regrowing ok. Slowly, but ok. I just couldn’t believe that he managed to break off a spur so soon after as well! And no clue how he did it. He actually has two spurs on each leg, Kind of like those weird Jacob sheep. I should try to get you guys a picture of the undamaged leg...

Egg Hunts and Weird Nests

Between all the COVID free range time and this whole hatching chicks thing i now have messed up egg laying. The nesting boxes are really only used by Hattie and Aurora now. Phyllis had given up on them quite a while ago. She almost exclusively uses the brush pile. Now Sansa is using the nest Lilly built for her on top of the pool shed.

I know I am missing eggs as well. No one laid in the coop on the day the chicks hatched. Either they did not lay or I have not found that nest yet. I was a little distracted that day.
Welcome to the club! “Hey, get out from under that rock! & Not there.... that’s Danger Bear territory!” Oh, she’s taking off in a totally weird direction, I should follow. Sure enough, there’s yesterday’s egg is in a pile of split rail fencing. To say nothing of the awesome spot by my old trailer Deep Cycle Batteries. :he
