@RoyalChick a Cholo the Third would be heavy enough to not fly up to the rafters. And the ladies like to stay near their rooster (once he's past the hormonal idiot phase).I still think you need a rooster.

They are young yet. You might have one at some point. The first year I had DCs, I was hoping, and the didn't....until late July!!!! very late to go broody here. Now, she has gone late like that every year (silly girl!) She is the one who hatched 4 chicks the last week of Aug. last year. Patience.....they will do it (or not) when they are good and ready.Ya know I havent had one broody hen![]()

That is all good news3 days in and both Gryffyn and Goose are acting like old pro's at this broody business. Goose is a screamer but not a biter. Gryffyn is silent but deadly with that beak. I have not even had to throw them off the nest, they are getting off to eat and drink every 24 hours, good girls. Oh, and Gryffyn, 3 days in still has all 4 eggs, plus 2 extra that I have to remove daily.
True as well. I could be tempted to keep a polish though. Well an orpington as well. You do realize that on hatchery websites, Lavender orpingtons are frequently higher priced and/or marked as sold out for the season. I don't think you'd have any problem rehoming those either.
All the more reason to get moving on thisOnly one problem, Hattie has seriously slowed down laying. Only 1 egg this week.
Hmmm, me thinks she is considering it, else she would have said 'no' immediately.I cannot form coherent thoughts right now!
I have a unnamed son of Cholo that is about 2 months old or a little more. You do realize that on hatchery websites, Lavender orpingtons are frequently higher priced and/or marked as sold out for the season. I don't think you'd have any problem rehoming those either.
Yes, alas, it is she! And, btw, she is a GREAT mom. Stayed with them full-time through 8 weeks, then days for another 2 (those last 2 she started roosting with her flock and let the kids roost in the broody coop.)Is that the Math Majors mom?
