Yes, I heard it on Triple J’s ‘Hack’ programme in 2016, one of the reporters watched a video of it happening and recorded her reactions. I was running myself into the ground study-wise and, unbeknownst to me at the time, slowly sliding into depression. I was distressed when I got home, then they recapped it the next morning whilst I was driving to work! I was really distressed when I got there and our CEO called me into her office and asked me how she could help! I decided then and there that I would stop eating commercial eggs, and not long after that, made the decision to get chooks. Apparently someone is developing technology to sex chicks whilst they are still in the egg, but it’s not ready yet.

That is a most horrendous practice. I believe the egg sexing is already happening in Europe. I wish they'd get a move on with it for here.

Hi there,
Just a two week old member of backyardchickens.com, I finally caught up to the end of your thread here, BY Bob, and of course it was the Fluffy Butt title that pulled me in. Just want to let you know it's so great to see how you have a mini-community within a community, and you have my total admiration for being such an amazing caretaker of your flock. Jabber, Patsy, Hattie, Mel...I almost feel like I have met them myself. My sympathies on your losses and my heartfelt warm wishes to your family, who all have had quite an eventful year. Anyway, I just wanted to drop in, say hello and stop being a lurking presence!

Carolyn (I'm so new I don't even know how to post those cute emoticons)

Hi Carolyn, nice to “meet” you! :frow Yes, there are a number of Aussies on this thread so you will able to chat at all hours! I must admit, I have this page open in a web browser at work and check it every so often throughout the day! ;)

Thank you for asking. I owe everyone and update. I am going to see Eve on Saturday. She is thriving. Around 10lbs right now and finally sleeping in her crib. Here she is channeling 1980s Whitney Houston.

Oh that’s too funny!! The 80’s :gig.... she is adorable! So glad she is doing well :love
And I noticed this from her first pic and even more so now.. she looks exactly like my granddaughter Charlotte (Lil Lottie) ;).... but she is seven now...
Have a great visit!

I meant what they are presently doing to male chicks. Sorry for not being clear.:hugs

Ooer, I don't think I came across clearly! I had my cranky-pants on because Europe is sexing eggs and Australia hasn't caught up! At least I think it hasn't, I haven't actually done any research into that. Maybe I should and if we haven't caught up, get the RSPCA onto it, given that they condone the present practice. Sorry if you thought I was cranky at you! :hugs

Maleficent Roosted First Tonight

Mal is usually next to last when it comes to roosting but not tonight. She was the first one to bed tonight and not in the nest!

But Aurora missed the door and was locked out! Cloudy rainy day and the door closed early. My little "stay out late girl" got caught out partying too long.
:gig

lol It's the internet. Sometimes it makes it hard to be clear.
