Glad everyone is all sorted out and doing better... welcome Carolyn @LCG Chicken Coop So, speaking of sleep deprivation... I’m about to turn in and WILL be sleeping in tomorrow, down to a reasonable 6 roosters and having made the commute to the other Abbatoir and picking up 6 hrs work. I know don’t know how Andrew (DH) can do it!

All day with basically no cell reception! The horrors...

I think Charlie has worked through her broodiness too; she laid an egg yesterday and walked off!

Oh my, you are all so welcoming. Thank you. I’m very new to this and I actually don’t own my own chickens. Our city has a community garden and I am the co-team leader of the chicken team. I call myself a Chicken Tender, lol. Years ago the garden built a coop and run to house 16 hens, and it is on its third flock. I helped manage the previous flock and just finished brooding half of the new group (my first time brooding.) In total there are 6 RIR, 5 black sex link and 5 red sex link and McMurray hatchery threw in a mystery extra chick (despite my plea not to) which the breed forum thinks is a Silver Spangled Hamburg cockerel! They are now 7 weeks old and in the coop for one week, and I have been visiting them every day because I am pretty attached to them (and one of the Red Star girls actually likes me too, hops on my lap.) It’s just an 8 min drive to the garden.

So I have lots to learn and am reading a lot here. I really enjoy the flock dynamics and human-hen connections Bob observes.

Anyway here’s a pic of August, our mystery guy, the teachers pet (named fil,) and a few girls. Sorry for lengthy post, not intending to take up this much space!

They are so cute. Thanks for telling your story. I love "Chicken Tender". That is great. I don't mind long posts, I do that myself! This is a nice way to have chickens without having chickens!
