I suspect if it was real aggression, the chick would have been injured. More likely, for whatever reason, he was reprimanding the chick. I would still keep an eye on him with the chicks...but I wouldn't automatically put him 'in the dog-house' so to speak.
Yes I am inclined to agree with you.

Now Marty is a nasty one she chases down the Tweens and really does intend to do them harm. But they are smart tweens and know to run away fast!

Let’s hope the babies learn to do that also.

Meanwhile I will be keeping an even closer eye on them and the others.
 
Tomorrow Eli will have been broody for ten days.
I am going to start a conversation with her about how golf balls are well known to hatch much faster than regular chicken eggs, and so if she doesn’t have a clutch of little putters by the middle of next week it is time to call it a day.
She just went tut-tut-tut and ran straight back to her nest.
She is one crazy hen!
