It is a 20% protein all flock pellet. Kalmbach. I got it on Chewy. Their starter is actually only 18% protein but I haven’t done a full side by side comparison.
It is more expensive than what I was feeding before but I switched after the weird pink feed problem and losing all those lovely Princesses.
This food smells delicious - like the kind of thing you add to olive oil and dip breadsticks in at Italian restaurants. Every time I restock the feeder I am tempted to try a pellet myself!
With your pellets being that high proteins, I would switch them whenever they can seem to manage the pellets. I was worried about switching them off starter too soon because in the first 8 weeks they grow tremendously AND grow in all their feathers - both high protein needs. Most layer and or all flock blends aren't that high a proteins.

As @rural mouse suggested, since you have almost a week's worth left (I thought that is what you said) start mixing some of your all flock in right away and see how they manage. They will either eat around the pellets, or start eating them, too.

Hmmmm

So instead of doing a spot clean like I usually do, today I cleared out most of the tweens bedding and put in new.

Don’t think they like it! They are avoiding that side of their bin like it’s the plague.

Just caught them sleeping by the camera where I didn’t clean.

That happened when my sister changed the straw in the top of the coop. They were so scared of it Josephine would practically run like her fluffy tushie was on fire.

Yes but just because it out and about so much, Mr P hasn’t even looked sideways at Rico, who walks right by him no problems. And he is crowing.

So I don’t think it’s an ‘another male’ thing. I think the chick got separated from the broodies and the others were milling about and he pecked the chick. For whatever reason, maybe to just send it on its way… who knows.

On the up side they are learning to run away from the others and that is a good thing.

But if Mr P is going to be aggressive with another Roo here that would be a bad thing.
I suspect if it was real aggression, the chick would have been injured. More likely, for whatever reason, he was reprimanding the chick. I would still keep an eye on him with the chicks...but I wouldn't automatically put him 'in the dog-house' so to speak.

Tomorrow Eli will have been broody for ten days.
I am going to start a conversation with her about how golf balls are well known to hatch much faster than regular chicken eggs, and so if she doesn’t have a clutch of little putters by the middle of next week it is time to call it a day.
She just went tut-tut-tut and ran straight back to her nest.
She is one crazy hen!
