These leaves are a big hit

I don't know what this vegetable is, it has big green leaves and a lot of white flies are attracted to it. I've given all the leaves to the girls and they are loving it.

My hip/pelvic area is in immense pain since yesterday. I picked up a heavy bag and I'm not mobile at all. So these leaves came at the right time to entertain my girls
The sad face is because I am sorry to read of the injury, I hope you heal quickly.

If I could I would have added a happy face for the leaves that are keeping your flock happy and busy! I need to devise a way to hang veggies that seems to be quite popular with the chickens ❤️

Silkie video clydes issue😿
Oh dear. Poor Clyde.
I do think it is worth posting on the diseases thread in case someone has experience.
I would definitely give vitamins - wry neck can be caused by vitamin deficiency particularly B1 if they have been given medicated feed for too long. It isn't that common but it is a recognized issue and it is easy to give vitamin supplements so worth doing.
Other issues can be head injury and blindness (including from feathers covering the eyes). From your video he doesn't look like he has any other imbalance issues - do you agree that he is able to walk, fly and peck accurately?
What about his eyes - are they covered over? Do you think he can see?

Sorry just saw I was tagged in this. I see she is young. How hot is it where you are now? I see this sometimes in the summer when it is hot and humid. In the mornings when it is cooler their combs will be bright red, by afternoon they start to get this darker color. A couple hours after dark when it has cooled off their combs are back to normal.
Good to know, I will keep an eye on Mr P this summer. He is really the only one with a comb here other than Sophia.

Same here @Marie2020. Sorry you are in pain - the leaves look great - it might be chard - I have tried growing it but something always eats it before it gets to any size!

I’m not going to mention that Mr. P’s comb is V shaped. People would say that BLU was a little devil, because of his horns. (V shaped comb) that gave my rooster a complex and made him angry 😡. Poor little guy. RIP 🪦

This is how hot it is over here. Pretty hot if I had to say.
I did not know chickens did that with their combs.
That is hot for them. Chickens are really not built for the heat, they actually do much better in cold weather. I see this more often with my boys. The hens are smart, during the heat of the day you will find them relaxing in shade. The boys, well, they are doing what boys do and more active. If the hen is busy running around trying to escape the boy's attention during the hottest parts then I will see their combs affected. All you can do is provide shade and plenty of water. If they are confined to a coop make sure it is well ventilated for optimum air circulation. I have not hit 90s yet. It has been in the high 70s to low 80s and already a few days of humid weather. 75+, especially if humidity is involved, watch for signs of heat stress.

No, I'm sorry. Your chicks are not having bad hair days. Now my poor silkie, he/she is having a bad hair day, and will continue to rock the bad hair days for at least another month, maybe longer.

Such is the life of poor little silkies. They hatch out adorable and then get so ugly they need a paper bag over their heads for a month or two. It is all worth it in the end though. Those little ugly ducklings turn into beautiful swans so to speak.
Mine will be 3 weeks tomorrow and I think they are still ridiculously tiny, but they are active.

One thing though, the wee white one seemed to have a longer top beak with a serious hook at the end (like a bald eagle), I looked at all the other chicks and thought it is definitely not right. So I nipped the very end off of her beak. She just seemed smaller and I thought maybe not thriving as well as the other two, I am thinking the beak maybe hindering her. Have you observed this before? Her beak is otherwise straight.

Anyways she seems non the worse for it and this morning running around pecking at stuff. I am keeping an eye on her - if it is a male I will keep it if it looks to have a deformity of some sort to ensure I can keep it trimmed etc. I am not interested in breeding so I can afford to keep some eye candy around.

She looks so cute next to the three penguins 💕
