I hate hurting any animals even a rat, but we have no choice when we are protecting our chickens or ourselves for that matter.I used cameras to find where they were getting in and blocked their entrances.
I was lucky - I didn’t have tunnels - they lived in a heap of construction junk next to the Chicken Palace and came in through gaps in my predator skirt to feed.
I used rat zapper and blocked the gaps and we cleared the junk. We found a nest in the junk and I fed the babies to the chickens.
Yes, I am that nasty!
No I don’t think so.Oh bless her. Has she hurt her foot or somewhere else on her body??
AwwwwI hear mama hen and the chicks outside my bedroom window
If indeed she is deciding not to be broody then her hormones will be all wonky, and will take a bit to straighten out. Remember she hasn’t ever been broody before so she isn’t sure how to be feeling, she doesn’t have chicks to be herding around, so she has to let the hormones straighten out.Eli update
She was strange all day. Sat around on her own a lot. Had some good moments where she wandered around sampling grass seeds, but even then she was very withdrawn and not her usual self.
She seems missing her joie de vivre which makes me sad.
Tonight she has gone back into her nest box.
I don’t know what I can do to help her.
Picture from a good moment today.

You tell him Marie! I hate when people do that - rude and disrespectful.I've been woken up by some selfish noisy brat banging his car doors, at stupid o'clock in the morning. Then finally speeding off.
I hope someone punctures his tires, he darn well deserves it.
I do so hope you are right. If indeed she is deciding not to be broody then her hormones will be all wonky, and will take a bit to straighten out. At least that is what I hope it all so about.

Blinking 1am in the morning. I wondered why I was awake then heard the prig still banging his doors. You tell him Marie! I hate when people do that - rude and disrespectful.
Mine were grumpy and irritable when they stopped the broody bit, which is why I though shoving chicks under them would help. But with my co-broodies being old cranky pants with the chicks I am not likely to do that again!I do so hope you are right.
I have no experience of this so I worry!
I want to take something for my headache but too lazy to get up and it’s darn cold so want to stay in my warm bed haha.Blinking 1am in the morning. I wondered why I was awake then heard the prig still banging his doors.
Thanks for yesterday, I took that paracetamol. It made me very thirtsy and I had too keep getting up but the pain isn't half as bad.
