Just came back in from spreading seeds. I was given a whole box (12x8x4) filled with dandelion puffs. While I was spreading clumps on the breeze, I climbed down the hill to the tree below: the wild mustard is 5 feet tall in several areas! New project: mowing some of it. Chickens will enjoy the dandelions next year, and so will the bees. Maybe I'll finally have enough to do something with them too.

Awwww what little characters 🥰 they sure are growing up and thriving.

You need to take a picture of the wild mustard.

I found 4 of the school chicks up on the hen house door with Misty - they sure can fly. Wish I had my phone with me for a picture!

Ah, so it's the incubator for the rest of the eggs as soon as I see her get up with her chicks, say any hatch?
From the moment the 1st hatches, there are between 48 and 72 hours for the rest to hatch. Mama MUST take the babies to food and water at that time. Her instincts will not permit her to stay any longer.

All the yellow is the wild mustard.

"Selfie" from behind my head. The blooms are up around my face.

I could talk to my dad about getting one built, but I don't know what the ideal one looks like... a brooder-like situation?
I had a-lot of luck with my tent from Walmart for $ 25.00. Its reusable too, just dump out the shavings and hose it down. Let it dry in the sun and fold it back up.

The downside is you need somewhere secure to set it up as it really isn’t predator proof at all.

I had it set up in my living room with a tarp under it ( I have porcelain tile floors so this was fine.) I felt it was to cold for them at the time out in the garage plus I had a broken ankle so living room it was lol.

Fast forward to this batch of babies. I set up the tent in my garage and moved Brownie and her chicks shortly after they hatched into the tent. There they stayed until they were 3 weeks old at which point I transitioned them into the coop.

The tent I found was just the cheapest one available and has a footprint of 7ft by 7ft. It’s HUGE for a brooder lol.

Perhaps this could work for you?
