Yep...you didn't read far enough. :) I took her back last night. Manny certainly welcomed her with open "arms". Darn amorous rooster. She's been there all day. Apparently my constant wetting stuff down has helped.

Goodness! Where are you? Looks like us.

Well they all made it all day without resorting to air conditioning. They're panting a bit, but the wings are not lifted. Yay!

It appears Sheba is running out of toner. Here's her last three eggs. Wednesday, Thursday (late night because she didn't lay in the house) and today.View attachment 3561578

Is this something that should concern me? Or was she just going for a chic ombre effect?View attachment 3561579
I would keep any eye on her, but my gals do that also.

I read that it is common for brown egg layers to have their eggs get lighter over time and then sometimes reset the color after molting.
I don't know if it is true but certainly some folk have experienced that.

🙏 hoping you, your horses and chickens stay safe!
Still under tornado and have a second cell behind this first one.

The radar went down darn it. Doplar Radar is only a km down the road so not sure what’s going on this was last echo, they are now putting out warning for two others.

The last echo I had:

You ok @LhickenChicken ? I see Drayton Valley & Rocky Mnt House etc under tornado warnings also.

4,000km away but we seem to be having similar weather. You be safe.

Also I think with stress - heat would be stressful.

So glad Sheba is doing better.

I have a couple of girls that lay like that regularly.

Regarding the significantly lighter last egg - it is also noticeably bigger - the eggs will be lighter when bigger because, in theory, the same amount of 'paint' is used each time - so if the egg is bigger than normal, the paint gets 'stretched' further and the egg color is lighter.
