And lots of moose, and elk - the ones on the side of the road!I’m betting that it loves chicken! And salmon too possibly.
I think the cage should be okay. As long as they have food and water, momma and babies should be fine with the nest box space plus the cage space for the first few days after hatch.Wow you guys were busy today! We went boating and didn't get home until it was time to close up the coop!
I loved the Italian chickens...which is also the name of a delicious dish my mom used to make for company.Seriously, I only got to visit Italy the one time. I'd love to spend time there...forever would work.
All the talk of pecking order makes me think again of how much i have to learn. I may have been a member of BYC for years, but there are my first chickens! And it's also why I'm concerned about Eenie and the chicks.
Nope. In fact you were the only one! But it's all good. We've decided, in the next few days, to use the dog crate we had Sheba in to isolate the nest Eenie is in. By putting it, side door open, against the nest, she'll have that space all on her own and the others will no longer be able to lay there. Every day I find eggs from both of the other girls under Eenie. That has to stop. I can't have then shoving into the nest on day 21 and crushing (or just killing) a newly hatched chick. They're going to be upset, but they have 2 unused nest boxes and 49 square feet of floor to lay on. They can lump it.
I don't want to move her and the eggs on day 12. I keep reading sooner is better. I can move her and the chicks without much problem. Right?
I have questions about using the small coop. If I leave it in good shade, it won't have access to the main flocks run. It won't fit inside it. Theyll be out of sight of yhe others for the most part. Maybe just a cage-like area inside the main coop? Like the crate, but larger? I can do that easily enough using materials we own now.
Anyway. It's late and I need my bed sooner rather than later. I'll pester with more questions another day.
Here's my mama mug for Monday.

That is in April, right? I'm thinking if the right holiday? I truly loved Italy. We were supposed to be there a week but that was when the Icelandic volcano erupted and we got stuck for nearly 3 weeks. Once we knew we were stuck we relaxed, rented a car, and just enjoyed. I can think of nothing I'd like more than to spend a month just traveling around. What part of Italy do you live in?That's so cool, we just call it liberty day but the ot really translates to day of liberty so it's backwards. In Italian it's called Giorno della Libertà when directly translating from English.
Wow a bald eagle awesome! Aren’t they amazing? Have them here - I am always worried about my chickens when they make run for the back door of the barn. An eagle could easily take any of the.
They aren't terribly rare here either, at least around bodies of water and they'd likely have no problem carrying away my 30 lb dog! They are huge!Rare? Not up here they aren’t!
I love when the go to land in a tree and those great awesome wings fold down, they could easily take my big fat Dorothy away!
I am! I never thought I'd be converting what was supposed to be a hunting cabin...but it's doing no one any good where it is. It will be nice to get it finished! It's 12 ft wide and I think 96 sq feet will be a bit large though...I so don't need that many chickens!I suggest at least 8’ - trust me! And also 8’ is a standard building material size for boards etc.
Insulation is a great idea - cool in the summer, warm in the winter.
You must be very excited!
How wide is too wide?I think the cage should be okay. As long as they have food and water, momma and babies should be fine with the nest box space plus the cage space for the first few days after hatch.
Once they 'gain their legs' they will want to explore - can the chicks fit between the cage bars? Not sure of the width between them - for most of my wire cages, the chicks would be able to fit through for a bit. If so, it is okay as long as the other 3 are good to the chicks.
❤ thank you!!You have really beautiful chooks![]()
And if you happen to own a platypus, you may show pics anytime you want!In that case Happy Liberty Day!
Fireworks are a big topic here, some have more problems with them than others. This past weekend was our Canada Day and of course fireworks - which scare my horses and cause the chickens to be restless in their coop.
I have cameras in the barn and coop so if the animals get too upset I go out and make sure they are ok.

Yes we selebrate it in April, but it's on the 25 instead of the 4. You have beautiful chickens. That is in April, right? I'm thinking if the right holiday? I truly loved Italy. How wide is too wide?
My husband is off on Mondays, and I work for the state. The governor gave us a half day yesterday so we used it for our holiday. He works today and I'm being SO lazy! I need to do housework, or maybe work on the coop, but a nap sounds better.
I'm sure I owe some taxes. View attachment 3565749
Hey RC, ….. Marco!I don't think Italy ever needed independence from the British however they were responsible for introducing fireworks to Europe and therefore to North America.
Fireworks were invented by the Chinese and brought to Europe by Marco Polo.
