I knew it would not last. Why would it last? It has not been a week I do not think. I once again have another broody hen. Me and Karen are not on speaking terms. 3rd time this year she has tried to go broody. I packed her grouchy butt from her hay nest and locked her in the coop. If history repeats itself, it will take over a week to 2 weeks to break her.
Drats! I have told my kiddos don’t even bother thinking about it! And we all know how they listen to me 🤨

This morning Whiskers found an egg on the floor by her nest box, she decided it needed to be sat on and cherished. I told her sorry kiddo that’s my lunch! Hahahahaha!!

Today was a bit of a non-chicken day. Many of you will empathize when I tell you I started the morning at the DMV and then continued on to the Social Security Office.
Then there was some chicken kerfuffles that got me stressed - I will explain more when I am less exhausted.
So, for Mugshot Monday we have a BFTP because this one always makes me smile.

Happy rest of Monday from Lulu (RIP Lulu - your signals still reach earth now and then).

So, you know I don't believe in paranormal stuff. But I promise I am reading this now only- and we decided this morning to name one of the last unnamed black pullets Lulu 😲.
Seemed one of her signals reached Daluis, France !!!

What’s up with Momma Hen? I am hoping she hasn’t decided to go hide away and brood 😳

I saw that post and it made me happy. Yes - her signal definitely got through to you! 🥰

Apparently chickens aren’t prone to West Nile or Zika 😊 I was wondering due to the mosquito issue here from all the wet weather.

I mean this kindly: it’s not clear to me that everyone in the barn together was going to effect a real quarantine anyway. I vaguely recall at least 30 feet away in a separate enclosure but I’m not sure. The relative proximity and the air swirling through in there seems minimal for quarantine. You can probably relax after a month, most illnesses are supposed to show up by then, right? Did the azures come from an NPIP (sic) or Canadian equivalent certified place?

Yes all factory farms here are strictly bio-security. No one gets in who isn’t supposed to, and they were some sort of PPE, and yes you are correct it’s not a full quarantine, but preventing them from touching feces and eating drinking from communal water and feed bowls is my big worry.

Air circulation is a huge worry for avian influenza and the like. At this time of year I am not overly concerned for that.

My big worry is actually for the Azurs, they would have been locked away in a facility not exposed to the outside, like soil, grass, etc. so their immune system would not be stressed like my gangs would be. Who knows what’s in my ground and what my birds carry that their system wouldn’t have been exposed to and built up immunity to.
