I see, I will read this to DVC!
This made me remember my passed hen, Plum because she loved to raise all sorts of chicks throughout the year! If she was alive to see this, she would have a fit!

Hello! I had to come see this thread when I saw the title...mine aren't too fluffy in the butts yet but someday!
I hope chicky birds all in a row work as tax? I'll have to look back in the thread to see what tax is...hoping it's just chicken pictures.

Welcome to the thread. It’s pretty easy going in here. It’s all about the chickens!

So, maybe you or @BY Bob or @RoyalChick would know better, but I have heard that CBD is more effective when absorbed directly through the skin and/or a mucus membrane instead of through the digestive tract, as it gets somewhat broken down when taken orally before it gets absorbed into the blood stream. I realize that it would be hard to utilize a CBD oil on a chicken ( unless it was for their feet or ankles) due to all the feathers.

however, do any of you 3 (or others )know anything about the relative efficacy for those routes versus orally? I 'heard' in a short news article or something a few years ago when cannabis became legal in MA - so was before the pandemic, and was A) wondering if it was true (seems reasonable, but who knows:idunno) and B) If so, how would you administer (either topically or in a 'nasal spray' something like that to a chicken?????????:idunno:idunno(note the double confusion on this last part!!!)
I do not know about CBD oil in particular. There are bare patches where there are no feathers and it could be applied there. But your post reminded me that in human history a lot of substances / drugs have been administered via mucous membranes (like the colon, via an enema) for this very reason. Especially prior to needles, and even after then because it is relatively safer and easier than needles. This wouldn't be a good route for chickens though because of the dual nature of the vent.

The vet today suggested Vitamin B injections as an appetite stimulant for Butters, and that would be administered subcutaneously with a tiny needle. First we'll try liquid Rooster Booster though (not the B - only, the general mix), orally.

This hooman needeth much glass before her eyess, and to presseth the sacred Beakbook machine CTRL+ thereto, so that betwixt and together might begin the reading of Her Royal Proclamation.

:bow:bow:bow Thank you oh wise and wonderful leader, her Royal Majesty. It is correct and timely to start molting, and to give up new attempts at rearing young.

Alas, I, a hooman servant, have been worn thin and tired running around meeting the needs of my vast flock of adults and littles, in my efforts to be a loyal and just servant.

Thank you, oh Royal Queen Aurora, for your just and needed Decree! Long live the wise Queen!!!!!:bow:bow:bow:bow

I shall readeth your decree at the gathering of dusk, so all shall hear (and obey) thine orders.

Yours Truly,

Humble Hooman Servant who is Ragged and Tired
Well played. :gig :lau :clap :clap

Welcome! Super adorable bums they are. Thanks so much for sharing. We love photos. The best way to participate is to read the Primer referenced in my signature.

Clever servant. You figured a way to accommodate your substandard eyes. Well done. The best human servants are clever human servants. :clap :clap :clap
