Translucent means kind of see through, silly!
Kiddo is looking like she'll take a nap today, so if/when she goes down to sleepytown I'll get out there and do my job as a chicken tender.

Hubby with his chicken, Shep. He asked her to test the perch he installed, paid in mealyworms of course.
If it means “kinda see through”, then why not just say that? It seems quite superfluous really, in a stercoreceous sense.🤔

No blood, and relative calm has prevailed for the last two mornings!
Here's Friday night

You can see the sweatjacket

The door opened early, set that way just in case. Nobody was anxious to leave. Also no pecking or any trouble really!

After some time Popcorn and Hazel cautiously go out to the porch and assess.

And a Spud wants to see but hangs back

But somebody ventured out once Popcorn jumped down, I think that's Hazel getting ready to go

She got pushed back in however

However, the one upset time was after their breakfast, when Popcorn went back into the coop. Sometimes they take an after-breakfast rest in there, or maybe she had noticed the sweatjacket and needed to investigate. I heard her suddenly screaming angrily, and heard knocking, scuffling sounds hitting the coop walls. I ran around and opened the back. She was attacking and fighting the poopy sweatjacket, and was really upset. It did look odd, all rumpled and twisted. I quickly grabbed it up and got it out of there. Popcorn left, but still vocalizing, and had to blow off some steam so she chased some surprised Spuds. I called her and started rustling the grass and leaves outside the run and turned over some stones for her to find worms (she got one). That helped and she calmed down.

That sweatshirt had to be put down! 😆

I have night lights in the horses stalls, and since the summer house is two stalls made into one large one there are two night lights - each stall has a reg light and an outlet which a night light is plugged into.

Does anyone think this is a bad idea? It’s not overly bright but one can walk around without running into anything, it has sufficient light for that. I have found that the chooks in there settle down fairly good without a lot of crashing to the ground like in the hen house, and I figured it might be because they can see to move around safely.

As such I was thinking of putting a night light in the Hen House. Thoughts?

The Summer House, the bright light is actually the stationary barn cam’s IR light not the night light

I'm not a fan of any lights in sleeping quarters. No night lights at FBA.

You could experiment. A dim night light might be fine; when in the brooder the chicks here used it, if they fell off their roosts I think it helped them find their way back. But I did dim it down a lot from what it was, the LED was really bright and I taped a piece of paper around the cover and laid a cloth over that.

Does this make me a bad chicken tender?
For complicated reasons involving a cat that disappeared before her vet appointment I made an emergency purchase of a grocery store rotisserie chicken.
Well obviously the cat demanded a lot of it.
And I ate some (quite good I must confess - I have never tried one before).
But I hate food waste so naturally I boiled all the bones for hours to make bone stock.
I just gave the boiled remains to the Princesses. It was slightly unsettling to see them tuck in with such gusto. Bernie running around with a wing tip in her beak was particularly disturbing.
I mean it is just meat and bones right?
But I feel slightly off about it!

Here’s something that happened today. One of the many stray cats around here, got her head stuck in an empty corn can. Must have dug it from the trash and wanted to lick the bottom. It was really stuck on the cat, but I got it off. Several puncture wounds on my hand and one very frightening kitty later, it’s okay now. :old :he
Strays are plentiful and dumb around here!
Thank you for taking care of kitty. You are a good man. 👍
