Oh, I'm sorry that your dad died. :hugs I don't know what I would do if that happened to me.
Thank you it was almost 5 1/2 yrs ago. We are still not over it, he was a very young 73. Looked mid 50s.
I often wonder what he would think of my chooks!

Okay...hubby just came in the room and said "well if we're lucky, Thane is a hen and we won't even have to worry about a rooster at all."
I hadn't even told him yet! It's like he can read my mind...
This is good, I would just bide my time till she laid an egg and then laugh and say ‘hunny you were so right he is a she’.

Now it’s his idea 💕

I like to think my grampa approves of what we've done with his house so far...bringing our kid in, the chickens, and hubby taking care of the property as well as he can. I think his only complaint would be we don't have a la-z-boy!
Positioned near a window so he can sit back relax and watch kids and chooks playing in the back yard 😊💕

When walking the dog I heard some insistent peeping and scratching from the coop so I opened it early. Out pop the original four! Guess they wanted to let the older ladies sleep in...nobody was visibly hurt and only the two youngest are still peeping.

"Let us out! We can sneak past the door hen!"
Of course it's pouring rain today, when I need to clean the coop and put out the new feeder and waterer.

Well I am sure he wouldn’t be too pleased with more animals here. But he would be good with the building work I have done 😊
Of course he would be the first one out to check the chooks for eggs and feed them treats 😁 not sure why he always had such drama over pets coming here, in the end the pets would be hanging out with him!!

How big is the inside of your coop? Might need to make it a bit bigger. Also if you don’t have roosts in there maybe put some in there. Chicken love to fly, and those silkies of yours will be able to fly no problem as they have normal feathers. So you can place some roost high up for your kiddos.

Henny Penny (satim silkie) can fly up the 30” to the roosting ledge no problem. Of course my other regular silkies can’t fly worth crap! But they can flap/hop about 14” up onto a hay bale.

And we won’t discuss my other chicks who no problem fly up 6’ then fly up into my pine tree 😳 And at night they fly up almost 8’ to roost on top of the doors in the coop.

Flying dinosaurs!
